| Project Ascension - Cerakoted 2.2 Tuber Sport
This project has currently been in progress for the last few months. I've slowly built this crawler from the axles up. Everything has been pieced together based off of DickyT's AX10 build. The following is the current setup... Suspension and Drivetrain... The Chassis: Underground Crawler Fastback 2 Axles: AX10 Shocks: Losi 4" Links: 0.250" OD, 0.114" ID, Aluminum Links I made w/ Revo Rod Ends and All-Thread Dig Unit: Vanquish Products Hurtz Dig Front Driveshaft: Junfac 82-117mm Rear Driveshaft: Junfac 95-130mm Transmission: Axial OE AX10 Pinion Gear: Axial 19 Tooth Front Axle Battery/Servo Mount: Vanquish Products Mount Rear Axle Shock Mount: Vanquish Products Mount Rear Axle Plate: Axial Flat Plate Wheels: Axial 2.2 Beadlocks Tires: Panthers (I also have Sedonas I have't tried yet) Body Panels are all made from Aluminum Electronics... ESC: Tekin FXR Motor: Axial 55T Brushed (I love having a $12 motor that I don't mind burning up) Reciever: Spektrum SR300 BEC: Castle 10A Steering Servo: Hitec HS5970TH w/ Axial Aluminum Servo Horn Dig Servo: Hitec HS225MG w/ Vanquish Products Mini Mount Radio: Spektrum DX3C Batteries: 3x 3S 1000maH 30C So... this is my first crawler and I am loving it. I've tried my hand at Planes, Helicopters, Bashing, 4x4 Core Truck, 2x4 Core Truck, and so far I think my favorite is this crawler. My goal is to build a tube chassis from 3/16 Steel that does not risk any capability. I am also planning on Cerakoting all the steel and aluminum parts including the new chassis, body panels, and the links. I want to redo the links out of steel. The reason I'm wanting to use steel is to be more impact resistant against rocks and bashing against whatever. I do a ton of Cerakote work on guns. I'll post a few pictures if anyone is interested! It has amazing wear characteristics and I hope to see how well it works for crawling! I would love ya'lls input and advice as I go through this build. I'm planning on posting tons of pictures of the build and taking it crawling. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures. I'll get out the Canon for the future posts. Thanks guys hope ya'll enjoy it! I love this chassis and it looks sweet! My roommate and I are building chassis together and I'm doing it for the experience. I love the idea of having a chassis that I built from scratch. I'm hoping the steel is more scratch resistant than the aluminum against the rocks. | |
