Default Newbie needs help. Where and what to order “parts”

Hello. So I got a used axis 10 scorpion yesterday.today the gears in the steering box stripped out... where is a good place to order parts in bc Canada.
Since I’m ordering a steering box what else should I get?
I have the stock 27t motor.. should I get the 55t? How about softer shocks? Any advice would be great! Hope to order ASAP. Thanks in advance

Yes. Looking for a site I can order a servo as well as other parts for the crawler. Another battery. Maybe softer shocks and a motor. Reading the forum. There’s so many servos to choose from..

What the newest cheap servo hotness?

$10 GoolRC or similar 45 turn motor for crawling, or 35 for trailing on eBay or Banggood.

For softer shocks, just replace the springs. If you post a picture of your existing shocks using Tapatalk or imgur.com, we can help you find the right size springs.

What are you going to be using the crawler for?
Comps? Fun?

Lots of metal geared servos out there. Depends on your budget? Do you need cheap or quality?

As for the motor.. is it too fast? Is it dead? No need to switch motors. 55t is too slow.
35t is the norm.
You could always go with a smaller pinion, if it's too fast for you.

Spend 20$ on a star and you can view the for sale section. It's a good way to get parts for cheaper.

It’s just for fun. Brand new to this hobby. Me and my kids will be using it. I would like to mod this thing a little. If I’m going to order one part I figured I might as well order some mods at the same time.just not sure what or if i need anything. What’s common to break in these? Maybe I should get some spare parts.

You don't necessarily need to order spares. Also have you driven the truck any? If not, put a good 5 packs through it on different terrains and see what keeps bothering you and then look to what you could do to fix that issue.

If somthing breaks, order a stock replacement and if it breaks again then go and find upgrades. So my point is to find what you think is insufficient first then go for hop ups.
Anyone else agree?

I used in for 3 packs but i have too much snow still to really play.
Thanks for the info. Going to order this servo and this battery and that’s probably all for now
DTXC2058 - Onyx NiMH 7.2V 3000mAh Stk TRX By DURATRAX @ Great Hobbies

TRX2056 - Servo High Torque Waterproof E-Maxx By TRAXXAS @ Great Hobbies

What bothered me about the truck was the hesitation between forward and reverse. The truck acceleration was too fast for crawling. Seems a bit inconsistent on the speed

Went with this servo. The other one was on back order
HITHS645MS - Super Torque MG Univ 0.20/133oz By HITEC @ Great Hobbies

Also if I go reverse to forward it’s good. But forward to reverse some work unless the wheels are stopped
Axial ae-1 esc with reverse
Axial ar-1 2 channel receiver

I was also told I can’t go over 7.2v battery’s. Is that true ?

If there's hesitation then either the ESC is in the wrong mode, or else it's the wrong type of ESC for crawling. Can you post up a picture of it on imagur or tell us what's written on it?

I heartily recommend that you get a Hobbywing 1080 ESC! It's one of the best brushed ESCs out there and it's cheap.

1080's great if you have $42 to spend and you're using a medium to high torque servo. If all you need is the basics and have a low torque servo like the JX 6221 20kg, then the $15 ESC 1060 should be fine, and you can always add a $1 external BEC if you need it. ;)

I too have heard that for the price, hobbywing escs are really good.

For the esc max input voltage, you can do a 6 Or 7 cell nickle or a 2s lipo. The max input is 8.4v. No 3s cause those are 11.1v

Those WP-60-RTRs are knockoffs. I'd get a genuine Hobbywing for the extra 2$. Better still, the 1080, it is that much better and has crawler mode and you get a program card. Both will happily take 3s.

Where do you recommend buying genuine Hobbywing products at good prices?

Also I’m totally new to this rc hobby. What’s a external bce. I’m it’s lookong like I’ll need a new esc to power my new servo. Great hobbies is sold out of the 1080. A 1060 would also work for me? Or is the 1080 that much better and worth the extra $

A bec is normally inside the esc and is used for powering the receiver. An external bec is an external voltage regator that most people use for powering high torque servos and is wired directly off the battery. Without one, you often see power cutouts due to the fact that there are multiple things requiring large amounts of power.

Yes, the 1060 will power the 133oz servo you bought.
