Upgraded to 3.8" Losi Shocks (think they're losi), too short, drags bellly a little too much. T-Maxx Shocks look to be the length needed, I am swapping out today sometime.

T-maxx shocks at full extension make the lower links parallel with the ground. A little less ground clearance than stock, but way better than the plastic junk the truck comes with. Now I get hung up on the lower link fasteners that attach to the tranny plate. I'm gonna switch out those to button heads and see if it helps.

Default shocks

the stock shocks have to much play and tmax shocks are to short and to stiff im looking for soft shocks that will still hold the truck up

While over at a friends house today, I was looking at some shocks he had laying around. There was a pair of 1/8 scale buggy Rear shocks that are the same length as the Axial shocks. You would have to experiment with different oils and springs to get the feel you want.
