Brushless motor suggestions

Sorry guys, I have searched but all I seem to see is "buy a brushless if you ...........) but no one actually recommends a particular motor.
What are you actually using??
I've seen the Hyperion Z-3025/06 Brushless Outrunner used but no real comments on how it goes. It would be my first choice but I keep getting told I'll get cogging.
I'll definitely be running a Mamba Max controller. Any suggestions please?

I've read several threads commenting on your excellent truck.
However that thread you pointed ends with "get a brushed"
Going around in circles again.
are the Revolver and Crawlmaster sensored motor's?

If not then are they any different to the hyperion equivelents?

Sorry but in NZ this stuff is double price so only want to buy once.

If you feel like tweaking the electronics, a brushless system can work wonderfully. The Revolver and Crawlmaster are both sensorless, very similar to a hyperion z3013 but slightly different. The Novak Goat system is the only sensored one. There are ups and downs to every setup of course, which you have probably read about.

First off,running a 3025-6 does not give you cogging. A bad set up does. Who ever has told you that is giving out bad info and should be kicked in the area just above the weld mark God gave us.

I run a 3025-8 in my super and it does a great job. I run a little taller gear than most and that gets me a tiny bit of cogging. I've tried lower gearing and it's smooth as butter. I like the wheelspeed and I've gotten used to this set up,so I run it.




What rig you building? If it's a 2.2,think smaller. The 3025-6 or the -8 will tear a 2.2 to shreads.

Like John says,gear down and volt up. Thats a good way to get rid of cogging. IMHO,the Crawlmaster is a great motor for a 2.2 sized rig,14r and even a lighter super class rig.

IMHO,a Castle Creations ESC and a quality outrunner in the 850-1100 kv range is a great combo. With the Castle ESC's(Mamba 25 and Mamba Max) you can hook them to your PC and fine tune them,which can be a big plus in tuning out cogging. Click my sig. Be awared The shaft diameter of Z3025-6 is 5.0mm. In an AX-10 you should need a 1/8" shaft to put the pinion on. Some players will grind the 5mm shaft down to 1/8".

Thanks I got talked into (and talked myself) a mamba max and Z3013/16.

Any suggestions or possibility of some screen shots of a mamba max brushless settings.

Even just start suggestions if you don't want to give away tuned points.
I know I saw a set somewhere but I really can't find it again. (darn it)

Wow, just tried my new truck with the brushless.
Cogging??????? hardly! Way cool!
I turned the motor shaft down to 3.2 so it's fit standard cogs and I'm running an 11 tooth.
Only thing I did notice is that like any three phase motor it objects a little to being asked to go forward while it's rolling backwards. Put full drag brake and upped the start power. That helped greatly but are there any settings that help overcome this in a brushless?
ie, motor timing?, Start power?, Punch control??????????????

100% reverse and brake,
medium timing,
forward to brake to reverse,
no punch control

Thanks, I was worried some experienced crawler would tell me I was an idiot and change all the settings.
Three more questions
I've added a throttle curve to give low speed control which of course means the brake is released before the motor kicks in on a hill unless I punch it a bit. Anyone else have a curve or reason not to?

I dont use any curves with brushless motors, yet. The interpolation is how the curve is plotted.

I dont use curves so that I can feel the difference between different motors and combos.

Thanks, I actually used the wrong term for the brake, it's the linear or curve option.
I have to use a curve (I think) because I'm using an 8 channel aircraft radio which means no self centre on the throttle stick. The curve gives me a bigger dead stick area in the middle to stop the truck as well as better sensitivity.
