| Another AX-10 TCS Gopher
Well i started my first shafty build, gunna see if i like torque twist better then clod stall. Anyhow, as the title states it's a TCS Gopher with: AX-10 Axles BM9 R2D Mamba 25 5955 for steering 645 for disco. RC4WD Super narrows Losi Claws (still in the mail) Ace Doughnuts Maxx big bore shocks Maxx 2.5 shafts Been collecting these parts for a while, waiting on the axles.. The first item to attack was the slop in the disconnect of the R2D. I had some .250" Delrin so i fabbed a couple of replacement bushing with a little tighter bore tolerance and are naturally slick. While i had it apart, i polished the output shafts and disco shaft. Here's a couple of shots of it. and one re-assembled. Next was the linkage for the disconnect. Using the TCS servo mount, i figured the best way was a direct (straight) shot. Not sure if it's right but it works great. A simple piece of .250" Delrin which is drilled and tapped to 3mm.. Seeing that the Maxx yokes would not fit due to the disconnect linkage i fabbed my own yoke, it still needs a bit of clean up work and a trip to the anodizers. Decided to go with .312" Delrin for the links, it's so much easier to work with then aluminum without a lathe or mill.. A few packs of Revo rod ends later and i have something that resembles a crawler.. Yeah, i know the upper links are not supposed to be on the top if the mounts.. Next up will be mounting the tranny (typing mounting and tranny in the same sentence just isn't right ) and then the shafts.. (It's getting worse, think i'll stop here. ) More to come soon.. |

freakin sweet! mine is about commence as well.. how does tapped delrin hold up..? i guess there is not enough real load to wear slop into the threads, right? and like Cato says, shouldn;t there be bearings in that thing? |

The tranny has bearings on the output shaft, both front and rear, they are housed in the bushings. The two internal idler gears and disco output do not, if it wasn't for the small size of the shafts on those internal gears, i would ream them up and install bearings myself but i don't think i can find any with that small of a inside diameter...

Well i got the drive shafts cut and fitted, still need to make a pin to hold the u-joint in the yoke for the R2D.. Man that rear shaft is short. Next was the streering servo and links from 5/16" Delrin.. All the tapers on the links were done with a drill motor and file. Just had to mount up the Claws to see what they looked like. Still in low rider mode though, the shocks are at the anodizers. By the way, Thanks RPP for the Claws About a 2-1/8" ride hieght.. Got to mess with that when the shocks come back.. Messed around with the panels since we need to be comp legal, the hood didn't come out right so it's back to the drawing board for it. Used .030" PETG, nice and light... I'm thinking just a basic black on the panels, got enough bling in the chassis alone. Still haven't decided on 3S lipo (which i already have) or 2/3 on the axle, not sure where i would mount the lipo and keep it safe?? |

I like those panels! How did you the etching so nice? I have a Gopher I'm building into super but planed on aluminum panels so they will purposely get dented and scratched but after seeing yours I'm starting to change my mind. |

Thanks guys! Here are some shots of the skid, the pan is actually thick enough to tap a few 3mm threads into.. I rounded up some 4" shocks so i could check the ride height. Using the rod ends that came with the shocks put her under 2", and i thought that was a bit low so i found some Dubro 3mm pushrod ends that are a tad over 1" long. This allowed me to get up to 2-1/8" of ride height without having to mess around with limiting the stroke of a longer shock. Not sure what the articulation range is, but it's nothing close to my Super Last was the electronics, since i still haven't got of my lazy arsh and made another hood, i just used a scrap piece of lexan to mock the top up so i could measure wire lengths.. When the sides are built into the hood, none of the electronics will be visible.. Still waiting on the batteries and need to finish off the front shock mounts.. ... That's it for now..
