Question Outrunner size to use in an AX-10?

What should I look for in an outrunner for the AX-10? What KV rating, Watts, and such. I know something around a 540/500 size brushed replacement with a 25mm mount spacing. But I need some numbers to go with.

Watts aren't really a big deal, what you want is heft. I would suggest about 3 ounces of motor or more with 1000 kv or therabouts. Then run it on 3s lipo.

watts are a very big deal, the watt is the power measurement of the motor. motor weight on the other hand is not a big deal, one company could make a 2oz motor that was more powerful than another's 3oz. I do not know the answer to your question john, but the watt measurement is very important. brushless cars are new to me, but in the airplane world there is a golden ratio of watts to pounds of the aircraft for different flying characteristics. im guessing the is a similar ratio for crawlers and cars.

Watts are generally fudged by most companies. I say watts dont matter because with a large enough motor you won't have an issue at all. Sure in a plane it is a big deal, but in a crawler you need torque that comes from motor heft and size. A 350 watt 2 ounce outrunner wont work in most crawlers, it would overheat or cog instead of startup smoothly. A 350 watt 3 ounce outrunner would do much better.

Look for dLRK wound 12 slot 14 mag motors, keep the weight at 3 ounces and you can't go wrong even with crappy neo mags and stator laminations a mile thick.

I talked with Jason And the Hyperion motor I was looking at will work well, he had used it before and like the performance. But for competition he likes the Brushed set-ups.

Same as me. I have moved back to brushed motors for comp use and used brushless in my scale rigs or bashers. FYI the hyperion motors do not like Quark ESCs. Looking at the z3013?

Yup 3013-16 or the 3013-14.

I'm leaning toward the 16 and using a Mamba Max ESC.
The bolt pattern for them is 25mm so they'll bolt right up.

Yeah, you just have to deal with the 5mm shaft. I would recommend other brands though, I used to carry and use the hyperion motors and they don't start up as well as they should under load. AXI, scorpion, MPI, and many many other brands work better. The hyperion will work, but for the price they aren't the best out there. Of course I carry a few styles that bolt into crawlers too.

The key with this project is to keep it cheap and I can get both parts from our supplier so the price is right. I've been using the the Hyperion Motors and like the power and fast rsponse in my planes so I figured it's a good place to start. And with the Mamba Max I can always change later and put the Hyperion in a plane and go with something else.

Thats why you get one that can be measured in horsepower, not wattage

For my AX-10 based Hustler,I am running a 850 KV Crawlmaster. Stock gearing and 8 2/3 a cells. AWESOME little powerhouse. I'd HIGHLY recommend it. It would be REALLY good on a 3 cell lipo, which I wanna try. Personally,I like running the Mamba ESC's. The adjustments you can make in the programming puts them far above the rest IMHO.

I run a Hyperion 3025-8 on 10 cells in my super. Awesome little motor IMHO. I like running my Cobalt puller in the comps though. They are SOOOOOOOOO SMOOOOOOOOOOOOTH.....warm butter smooth! and got the power as well.
