| Down Under Scorpion
Hello All, After a long (15-year) absence from R/C due to various reasons I am happy to be able to dive back in. We've definately come a long way since I last plugged in a 7.2-volt battery. I used to have a Juggernaut II with a full ESP conversion kit which saw it's fair share of hills, rocks, mud etc but sadly some low-life stole it when my house was broken into. I am now pleased to annouce that I am the proud owner of an Axial Scorpion. I would like to know how they kept its development secret as the kit seemed to appear out of nowhere. Well done I say as it is just what rock climbing needs to genuinely bring it into the mainstream. Did have a few minor problems with the kit though. One of the AXA1306 6x6 spacers required in step 20 was missing (yes I did check all the bags - twice - to make sure I hadn't accidentally thrown them out). Also one of the 12mm hubs AX30430 hadn't been drilled properly so I couldn't get it onto the axle stub. Some light filling made it fit but also removed some of the threading so the set-screw wouldn't stay put. However, all in all it built up into a magnificent looking rock crawler. I've currently got it equipped with a: * Trinity Monster of Touring 15T Double * Duratrax Intellispeed 8T ESC * 3,600 mAH NiCad * Hitec HS-645MG servo. I think the motor might turn out to be a little inappropriate so I have ordered an Integy 55T motor which should arrive shortly. |

good to see another Aussie! i ordered an AX-10 last thursday so i can actually get on the rocks while i finish my 2 year long build. well, nothing new but "theres been a delay, sold your order to someone else even though you paid for it". it'd want to be damn impressive since i got shafted. might arrive next week, who knows? also considering the x-trail chassis but ill see how it runs stock. |

Thank you all for the kind welcome. I'm currently running the 15t for the sole reason that I did not have another motor spare. There is another 15t in my Dark Impact and a P2K2 in my Evader but their both obviously spoken for. At the moment I am running a 15t pinion with the standard spur. A quick run down the road demonstrated plenty of speed but there is a lack of torque. I have an Integy 55t on order which should turn up in a week or so. Once that is fitted and the body painted I will post some pictures for all to see. It was tough to stay out of the hobby but work and other committments did a pretty good job of keeping me otherwise occupied. I did have a Juggernaut II which I mentioned earlier, along with a modded Stampede which I bought in 2001. They were both shelf queens waiting for me to find the time to actually use them but sadly they were both stolen before I had a chance to really get some use out of them. Moral of the story here is make sure you have home insurance (which I didn't at the time.) |
