| Deadbolt Axle Questions
My sons deadbolt started making some noise from the rear axle, he took it apart and it appears that the gears are going bad, what would be the recommended ones to replace them with, he said his fronts are also might be ready to go out...have not done too much cralwing with it yet. and also the paper gasket in the diff was wripped as well. The first thing I would check is the front pinion bearings. There are two of them, If they are loose the pinion will drag on the ring gear. causing a grinding noise. But check that the drive shaft joints move freely. I have done a ton of crawling with my wraith and ridgescrest, both use the same axle as the deadbolt and never had a problem with a diff or axle. Other than bearings, or wearing through the bottom of the plastic axle. As for a paper gasket? I have never seen what you are talking about. |

replace the stock gears with the heavy duty hd gears from Axial and never worry about them again. as for the paper gasket ,scrape off the old ones ,purchase some new ones and install em when you put in the gears

never really needed the OD and UD gears in my rigs, the theory is by using the UD gears in front it will give you a better tuning radius. personally I like to stick with the same gears front and rear, the ar60 axles already have a good turning radius. if your not comping with your rig just get the HD gears and your set, just make sure you grease them after you install them and your good to go. RPP Hobby has a few different types , I prefer the stock gearing and after 3+ years of running mine they still look brand new.

I bought the underdrive gears for mine in the rear. It helps to overdrive the front. I felt like mine was always pushing to much in the rear, the new gears helped. Do yourself a favor though and get the Axial brand. I purchased the Hot Racing brand and the machining seemed to be off. They grind but I still drive it. I posted a thread in here about it. It's really personal preference on how you want it to drive. If you do overdrive also you would double the amount of front steer. Also, take note of how everything comes apart and test it before you button everything back up.

as others have stated, this is the time to underdrive the rear!
