Default What's the story on lack of grease in the portal axles?

I've seen a couple of YouTube videos that mention that the Capras ship from the factory with dry portal axles. No grease at all! Is this true?

I'm preparing for my first outing with mine and just thought I'd ask before tearing into them to check.

Entire gear train on the RTR is dry as a bone, diff gears, portals and transmission.

If you buy RTR rigs, it's best to always open them up to make sure the gears are greased and also to get familiar with how to work on it and how it comes apart.

I must've been one of the lucky ones. The gear terrain on my RTR was well lubricated. With that said, I agree 100% with zoo-wally. It's always a good idea with RTR's to give them a thorough inspection to make sure everything is assembled and lubricated properly.

I checked mine after a couple runs and then read they were coming dry on the RTR. My portals, diff and trans were all dry. Also the portal gears were all installed backwards. The gear has a square cut and rounded side that fits the roll pin. If you have built the SCX 10.3 you'll understand.

Bone dry portals and dif but I also skipped out on the transmission itself. I guess I’m taking her apart again this afternoon...

Just got my Capra last night. As always I tore it apart to check everything. Like everyone said, no grease. I also discovered one of the portals was missing, I mean completely gone, a bearing. Perfect example why you double check the factory.
