Default MDRC SCX10 4Runner

Been eyeing the new scaler kit from Axial since the first pics leaked months back.

Knowing that I was the first guy to pick up a AX10 from my LHS (Jakes Performance Hobbies) I decided I would do it again and be the first to buy the SCX10. I was at the front door this morning before Jake even opened to get mibe.

Anyway here is the semi-live build...

You've all seen the awesome box art but here is what you seen when you break the seal and get inside:

All the parts layed out on the bench:

Tons of cool plastic pieces in this kit especially the skid, radio box, shock towers and cross members:

I'll go build for awhile and post more in a couple hours...

I ordered two kits and they were suppose to be delivered on Thursday. I just checked the tracking info and they are stuck in Utah for adverse weather conditions!!!!! Bummer! Now I have to wait longer. Keep the pics coming.

Ok didn't get as far as I was hoping by now but had a buddy stop by looking for some 4x3 spacers.

I noticed something strange in the build manual on page 10, it calls for thread locker on the rear axle shafts where they insert into the locker. The instructions for the front axles says to use grease so not sure whats up. Here are the axles built:

Next I built the shocks, I decided to opt out on the remote reservoir and glad Axial put a standard cap on the parts tree. These shocks have some neat features like pent pattern cuts on the piston instead of holes, nice rubber bump stops and the dual rate spring set. The upper is the red super soft and the longer lower spring is a green medium. They work nice and I expect the aluminum upgrades to be even smoother.

and the pic is kind of dark but for you 2JSC

Got all the links built and installed them on axles along with the shocks. I really love the gray anodized links.

I also built the trans and installed a 35t Integy motor I had laying around. I realy like how all the chassis components are gray or black to lend to the scale look

Next the chassis rails,

pause for the sweet laser etching

ya but just about done,

the chassis goes together quick and the axles bolt right up

the underside looks smooth, very little to hang up

these thin hex's are great, i will use them on other scale builds as well

Im not sure if I'll get the wheels built tonight

im ready for bed, it will run tomarrow

Great build so far. Does the electronics case have any rubber gasket around it?
Thanks for sharing the pics

thx,

there is no gasket but it does fit tightly and has a lip all the way around the edge of the box and lid to keep stuff out

wow, that looks like it's coming together really cleanly. i'm digging those air fresheners as well! i guess i won't have a bodyset with complete decal sheet for sale after all so i might as well try the paint-the-inside-like-rust-and-get-a-matte-finish-by-painting-on-the-outside technique that i've been waiting to try out for a bit when i get mine hopefully in time for a fun superbowl sunday build. i look forward to seeing the rest of your build pics soon. thanks for sharing.
