Default What should i get???

Hey noob here, know absolutely nothing about electronics and was wondering if some of you could help me out with what gear to get for the SCX. I haven't bought the truck yet but, I want something better than the cheapest way to get the truck up and running. Any advice and or tips would be greatley apperciated.

Cheers!

James

I use a

Novak Goat System $169.99 through The Crawler Store
http://www.tcscrawlers.com/On-Sale-3...9-p-16479.html

Futaba 4Pk Fast Transmitter and receiver $499.99
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTHR6&P=SM

Or allot of people use the Spektrum DX3R $319.99
http://www.tcscrawlers.com/Spektrum-...o-p-16833.html

I prefer the 4 channel because it allows me to run additional channels for my Scaler I am building.

Good luck and welcome.

A lot of people use the Sidewinder ESC with brushed motors (35-55 turns). Castle Creations, Tekin, and Novak seem to be the ESC manufacturers of choice.

I had a JR Z-1 prior to getting into crawlers so I just picked up a few more Spektrum receivers, but as CrazyHorse mentioned, 4 channels are nice to have if you plan to run a dig, though probably not on a scaler, or want lights and a winch that you can control from your transmitter.

As far as servos, most here seem to run Hitec or JR, but there are some new servos by both Futaba and Airtronics that exceed the 403 oz-in of the JR 8711. It seems like these 400+ oz-in servos all run ~$140. I'm thinking of getting a Hitec 7955, which is 330-somthing oz-in and can be found for ~$100 on mine. 200 oz-in seems like the figure most think of as the minimum for a scaler.

Are you going to be running NiMH stick packs or LiPO?

Good call on the servos I totally forgot that. I use the Hitec 7955TG in all my cars and trucks. It works really well.

Yeah not running a dig on my scaler but plan on running the lights and winch from my TX so that is why I chose the 4 channel. A 3 channel will work just fine for most people.

Sweet thanks guys, I think that pretty much covers my questions. I do however want to go with lipo for the extra power and run time duration, what is an adequate size lipo?

Motorwise. I am using a 35t and wouldn't want any more turns. THe 35 gives plenty of torque for the truck but just enough speed to spin the wheels when you want to.

I'm wondering the same thing about how much mah i need in a lipo pack. i get more than an hour out of some cheap ebay 3700 mah stick packs on my cr01, but i've read about guys getting about that much run time out of a 1600 mah lipo. i'm thinking of getting a maxamps 2200 2s and/or a 3250 2s pack as my first steps into lipo for my cars but would love to hear what the rest of you are using. is the 2200 pack small enough that you can mount it beside the steering servo on the front axle as is shown in the back of the manual?
