Default wheelbase shortened

this is my first scale/crawler so i am enjoying the crawling aspect of it more right now. If i were to shorten the wheelbase bout 1/2 inch would it affect the performance so much i would not like it. just looking for some input. Not a huge deal i can live with out it but think it would look alot better if the wheelbase matched the body.

you could always just widen up the wheelwells just a tad.

I have the same body for mine and I just opened up the wheel wells like has been suggested already. Still looks pretty scale, just laking the fener flares but you could probably get creative with a heat gun if you really want to have them on there

Hmmm Before I would cut or shorten I would just raise the body
2 or 3 notches,,,,I bet the fender cut would be less severe,,,
And for scale crawling I doubt 1/2 less wheel base would be that big of a deal,,,,also shorter wheelbase,,,,tighter turning circle,,possible XD
Careful Im still a Noob,,,Did my first scaler,,scx10 and I dig It.

Default went ahead and shortened

hey guys thanks for the replies, much appreciated

Well I decided to give a go at shortening the wheelbase. I ordered up some 6x74.5mm grey threaded aluminum pipe (ax30479) for the lower links and 7x50mm grey post (axa1427) for the upper links. After putting it together i moved the shock mount to the forward holes on the chassis and had to cut bout 1/4 inch off the drive shaft for it to fit. Amazingly and thank god, cause i did some cutting, it seemed to fit the wheelbase great. The only real big diffierence i have found it performance is that it definitely needs weight in the tires. Because I got the MSD steering kit my battery is mounted in back so the front end really likes to come up now.
let me know what u think

Before shot

After shot
New links added and also had to move the Y spacer to the rear to get the right angle on the axle.

Here's how it looks and some action shots. Just like taking pictures

Nice work, you did the right thing. Now it looks like it should.

Widening wheelwells to fit the wheelbase of a chassis never looks right IMO.

It may be 5X more work, but shortening the links to make the wheelbase fit the body always looks better than just hacking out the wheelwells.

A shorter wheelbase will perform different, but that's part of the scale experience. You can't expect comp crawler level performance out of them...

agreed i was just going to lower the body down to it but moving it up i think will achieve more. I might trim up the bumper to make it a bit smaller and styrene where i have to. i dont have time right now to teach myself how to braze but hopefully in the fall. so for right now plastic it is.

I run my rig with a 10 3/4" wb. I don't have a problem with it at all. Granted it doesn't crawl as good as my comp rig but its not supposed to.
