| Scale Crawler question from a newbie
I have an SCX10 that I'm working on as a scale crawler, Here's a Pic from the Great lakes Bashfest I have the stock 1.9 SCX10 rims that were on it originally but put the 2.2 Moabs off my Stampede on it because I thought I needed a little taller tire for where we ran and I wanted to try it. The 2.2s worked good but with no weight and full foams in them they were not optimal. Question is, Would it be better to run 1.9's or would 2.2s (as pictured) still fit into the "scale" class? The truck is stock except for some Losi shocks, & it's powered by the Novak Brushless crawler system. Future plans include a brush guard, maybe some rock sliders for the side, & possibly a roof rack depending on how I feel about top heaviness. I really need to get the weight down low, So I'll probably end up weighting the wheels heavily. Please provide some input as I am fairly new to the crawler thing. But I am getting such a kick out of it I may just make this my summertime "RC" and leave my racing for the winter at Washtenaw RC raceway. Thanks! |

if you have both of them just test them out yourself? it looks like the 1.9s will look pretty small on that, the ones you have on right now look pretty good, just do some testing |

Do the "star cut" mod to the foams, add some weight to the wheels and give it a spin. I'm running 2.2 PL Hammers on mine, 2 wraps of 1/8th inch thick lead strips on the fronts, one wrap on the rears. It performs well for mild crawling and I love how it handles at speed, too! T.D. |

The Wheelbase looks way off on the rears. Maybe streatch the rear links?

Thanks guys. The body is a 1/9th scale Pathfinder originally from Kyosho. I bought the whole kit back in 1993 or so, & it's been a dust collector for at least 10 years until I got this truck & thought "what if". the stock 1.9s actually look really good on it, I have the body raised up quite a bit in the pic so if I lower it with the 1.9s it loos even more scale (IMO). Here's a poor pic with the 1.9s on: The wheel base is only about 1/4" off in the rear & I do plan on extending the links to compensate. |

In my opinion that truck looks much better with the 1.9's under it. Most scalers by their very nature are going to be a little top heavy especially if compared to a comp crawler. Weighting the wheels will help, but if you plan to enter any scale comps with it be sure to double check the rules for any limitations on wheel weights (MSD rules for instance limit you to adding 12 ounces total to all 4 wheels).

deffinitely unique crawler. 1.9's look alot better and looks like you need to stretch the rear links. get that tire under the fender well. post some more pics up
