That is cool. I have been going to do the same thing to my SCX-FJ. I have seen a few like this at comps. I think with the top and sides removed this body will be a great trail rig. Uncut and with a bunch of scale items on the Pro-line rack it is always wanting to turn over. Get busy I want to see this thing done! |

Thanks for the encouragement! I got a ready to run SCX10 with a 55 turn lathe motor and Novak XRS for $200 at our last comp and then I had a chance to get the FJ body for $15. Both of those were too good of deals to pass up so I took them home and started googling. When I found those pics I knew what I wanted to build. They are inspiration pics though. I'm going to build it close but not exact. I am going to keep the Flatirons and build it for crawling instead of speed. I'm not real sure what I am going to do on the back but I don't plan on cutting the rear out like on the 1:1 but that might change. This is the first rig that I've tried to braze up much of a cage on so we will see how I do. You guys have kind of put some pressure on me now. |

I'd just do a drop bed for a spare or scale goodies.

the front bumper of the 1:1 looks really close to the trail ready bumper.

| And that is what is going on it just as soon as I find one in stock. I should have said that and some other details in my original post so I went back and added some more info. on my plans for the rig.

I had some time this afternoon to do a little brazing so I fabbed up the rock sliders. I had planned on reuaing the plastic Proline ones that were on it with my Silverado body but after seeing where the mounts for the roll cage needed to be it was just easier to make my own. |

I've been working on the FJ today and made pretty good progress on the tube work. Its pretty well finished. It just needs some primer and paint. This is the first cage I have built myself so I think it turned out pretty well. I have a Proline Light Bar and Tamiya Grill on the way from Tower Hobbies and an Axial TR front Bumper on the way from TCS. I'm waiting for the bumper to get here so I can measure everything out before I cut the front of the frame off. |

Apparently photobucket has started limiting the bandwith or how many times your pics can be viewed. It says mine is supposed to reset on the 29th so the pics should be back up then. Thanks for looking.

I've made a little more progress on this rig. I got the mounts for the light bar made and fitted the bumper. |

That's cool looking. I am a sucker for an FJ40. I was going to suggest caging in those lights but then it would not be like the 1:1...You seemed to have deviated a little on the rock sliders though ...That bumper is a perfect match eh? Can't wait to see more. I just recently brazed my first cage as well and guess what kinda vehicle it is? Lol Subscribed! JB |
