Well our UTRCRC club is starting our next Adventure and it's a Trail Class comp (aka 2.2). For the most part, I can't stand 2.2 scale rigs. There just big, dumb and most often look far from scale. Now I understand that a 2.2 scale rig can be done, as Griz and Warpig have proven, but there is such a tremendous amount of work involved and in the end I just don't think that I would ever use one. Well UTRCRC has made the decision to run 3-4 Tuff Truck Challenges for 2010 so 2.2, here I come. I wanted to build something totally different than anything else out there. It needed to double as my Trail rig (a vehicle that would be trailered to a trail head) and work as my Tuff Truck with little modification. I selected the Axial SCX-10 platform with the usual axle goodies, such as aluminum steering knuckles, high speed gear set, 4 link truss, hand job steering kit a set of the finest shocks for scale period, the Pro-Line shocks, CAC 2.2 EZ-Locks (one of my all-time favorite beadlock vendors) and who knows what tire. I'm holding off for a set of RC4WD Spookies but in the mean time I may just use a good old set of Pro-Line Hammers. The rig will have a 12" wheelbase, with a pretty narrow stance. For electronics, I'll be using some freak of nature servo, a Tekin FX-R and a Tekin 35x1, powered with a 3C lipo. Now onto the build! I used 3/16" solid rod with Silv 56 Harris solder. I just started using a Smith Mini Torch and love it!!! The build was inspired from the attached image. It's pretty redneck which is exactly what I'm shooting for. Now the build as always takes on a life of itself and so it's slightly different from the image but I think it looks pretty good. I used an Axial Trail Ranger body (or what little I ended up using ) which fits like a glove. I'll have a full interior, dash, seats, etc... I should be a factory Axial Scale Driver will all the builds I've done on these SCX-10's. This is the 6th one I've built-up, each one having a custom cage of some sorts. As a side note, for those of you wanting to run a 12" wheelbased SCX-10, you can easily do this with 106mm lowers with long rod ends, 91mm lowers with short rod ends and the Axial 4-Link Truss. Okay, now onto the pics... |

That thing is sweet! Super simple and light weight while still looking very scale, should perform as good as it looks. |

You and I have similar feelings towards the 2.2 scalers... But you seem to be off to a good start with this one |
