| SCX10/AX10 Axle Problems???
Hi, I took my axial axles apart yesterday to put new bearings in, then i cleaned the gears and housings with gas to get all the old grease out. Now the rear axle makes a constant grinding sound like the gears are too close. I've taken it apart dozens of times and still can't figure out what the problem is. Everything seems to be seated correctly, I put new grease in it. I don't know what else to try, any help would be appreciated. Cody |

Did you seat every one of the bearings properly, especially the pinion bearing? The pinion bearing can hang up sometimes and will cause binding if not seated properly.

Also the gas might be interfering with the lube properly "sticking" to the components.

Take everything apart and clean it with WD-40 (not the bearings) never use gas, then wash the gears and axle housings (not the bearings) in hot soapy water, then dry eveything out with a lint free towel and use white/green lithium grease (not to much) make sure everything is seated properly. When the axles are built you should be able to turn it with your hand from the output shaft.

I had that on my comp crawler until I rebuilt the axle, sounds like the guy above me had a good idea. Maybe the gas messed up the bearings?

I didn't clean the bearings with the gas, just the gears, shafts, and axle housings. I put brand new bearings throughout the truck. I didn't plug the holes on top so there was some dirt in there. I put vehicle wheel bearing packing grease in there too lol. I'll get some lithium grease and redo everything. I've taken em apart several times and never had this much trouble.

as dkf said, you pinoin bearing probably isn't seated all the way. Take them back out and make sure there is nothing on the face where the bear sits, even one grain of sand between the bearing and its seat will throw your mesh off
