Default SCX-10 RTR Electronics ESC Question

The SCX-10 that comes RTR/TR....... my question is about the ESC. I've been reading how the ESC that is included does not have "drag braking". I was wondering..... when descending down steep terrain how do you keep from free-wheeling? Do you apply a little reverse with the throttle? Or if you try to add a little reverse does it just go right into reverse, like there's no in-between? I've watched some vids' but I dont know what kind of ESC the guys are runnin' in the vids'. With the stock ESC does the truck have "brakes"?
Sorry if the question is noob...but I havent been into electric RC for about 15yrs. My last elec. RC was a Tamiya Blackfoot with an mechanical speed control (remember those LOL)
I'm really liking the scale rigs & I want something to run out of the box, only because I dont own any electronics, radio, servos, esc, etc.

I was just looking for some insight...thanks guys.

p.s. I know I can always add an ESC with drag brake later.
