| Zoncho, Just another Honcho
I posted this in the wrong forum, deleted that thread and reposted here where it belongs. This was and still is a fun build, not finished yet. I'm still waiting for some electronics. Specs; Axial SCX-10 Honcho kit. Orion 17.5 sensored brushless. Mamba Max Pro. CC BEC. Hobbico CS-170 steering servo. RC4WD Rock Loks. TR four link mounts in the rear. Hand Bros. steering and four link mounts. VP hi-steer with large bearing mod. Alum inner steering yokes. Spektrum. 3racing winch On the long list is a Tamiya Tundra hardbody. * * When I was ready to paint the diamond plate I was out of metallic silver. I shot some smoke and then chrome and got a nice stainless look. I don't know how well it shows in the pics. |

You need to get a Ted Nugent action figure to use as a driver in that. It looks cool I like the paint job. I like the look of that bed very well. I just got the axles built on my Honcho. It Just got here a few hours ago. I have the Tamiya polycarb smoke spray can. I might just put the smoke to my bed Before hitting it with the silver. The truck body is going to be Gunmetal though and it might come out too close to that color. I will try it out on scrap first. How many coats of smoke did you do before the chrome? Did you use the sticker on the gas tank or paint it? I can't tell. |

I wanted to make some small dimple dies to flare the holes but a counter-sink simulates the effect perfectly. It may be tough to see in the pics. This morning I added the TR rear four link mount and used the TR's lower links included in the parts tree as uppers for the rear. The length is a hair short but works. I also added the 3Racing winch and Hand Brother steering kit. Actually I only got the four link part of it on so far and made some 1/4" delrin uppers for the front. I need to machine the servo mount with a slot for the front cross member and add a mounting thread hole in the frame. This mod will keep all the important parts of the chassis strong and leave the battery tray where it is. I'll add pics after I make the mod.

Thanks guys. Picture updates, always a good thing; Hands Bros. axle mount with 4 link. Axial steering yokes. Hands Bros. servo mount with Hobbico CS-170. BOWTIE's cool scale stickers for the 3Racing winch. TR rear cross member with 4 link. The lower links that come with the TR brace are almost long enough for a good pinion angle. Not pictured is the VP hi-steer knuckles modified with a big bearing for the outboard side of the knuckle. Got some Pro-Line Power Strokes to go on tomorrow.I need to order a full size spare tire, Mamba Max Pro is paid for and en-route, I plan on playing with a 4s in this. Should be fun. The coup de grāce is some new bead lock rings. These rings are spawned for an admiration to "I hate Mondays" rig from Pirate4x4. I always loved his rings on his old YJ and thought this would be the rig for a similar ring. And yes, they are directional. And I just had to go the extra step and cover the spare. I can't wait till this ones done. Last edited by JeepinDoug; 01-08-2010 at 10:46 PM.

Looks good Doug You planning to use the Tundra body with the Honcho cage? I've been wanting to do that if it will fit. |

Question on the bearing mod for the knuckles, I know you guys were doing that on the Berg's with the CVD's, What bearing are you using on the axial axle shafts?

The big bearing isn't necessary at all. I had a pair of VP axial specifics knuckles I gave the big bearing mod to. I used them on the Zoncho with 12mm x 5mm x 4mm ceramic bearings. I only went this way cause I didn't want to buy another set of knuckles.
