| Need advice choosing ESC for Honcho
I have a honcho on the way and need a esc / motor setup for it. I want to go brushless and have something I can use in a comp if I decide to go that way. 1. Traxxas Velineon VXL-3s ESC / Velineon 3500 Brushless Motor 2. Novak Goat Crawler Sintered Brushless System 18.5 3. mamba max esc / ? 4. Castle Creations 1/10 Sidewinder Sport ESC + 5700 kV or 4600 kV 5 other suggestion I have read and searched for over a week and I am more confused now than when I started. |

The only one that you have listed that would be good in a crawler is the Novak. The rest are really for speed. My personal choice is a Mamba Max 35t on 3s lipo. I have not ventured into the brushless motors yet, but I do know that most of what you have listed is really not the best choice for crawlers/scalers. |

I have a FXR, but it will only do brushed. The 35T, 3s lipo combo is very nice though, lots of wheel speed and enough low end power to do it all. Brushless motors are great, but I think the market is moving towards high voltage, high turn, Brushed setups. No matter what esc/motor you choose, make sure you get something with a built-in lipo cutoff. Drunk |

x3 for the FXR. I have one on the way and can only go buy what I've read, but it's supposedly one hell of a brushed crawler/scaler esc. I'd be shocked if it wasn't after the countless threads I read praising it.

X4 on the FXR. Got mine for christmas for my build but havent had a chance to run it yet. The ESC is really small so finding a place to mount it is that much easier. Also with BL they don't seem to like water to much so you may want to go with a brushed set up.

I guess I will go with the Tekin FXR Crawler I can get the combo with the Tekin Pro 55T or the Tekin 35 ? I assume from my reading that the 35T is preferred. So far my build is : Honcho Kit Futaba 3PMX tekin FXR Hitec HS-645MG or the CKRC Wiggle ONYX 230 charger Venom 6-Cell 7.2V 4200mAh NiMH ? Axial NVS Night Visions System |

For the price, you really can't beat the FXR combo. If you don't need the handwound motor the combo can be found for around $99. For your batteries I would also suggest you try some Hobby City FlightMax 2200 mah 2S21P lipo batteries (they're CHEAP! but work GREAT!) Also, you can't beat the 3-Racing light kit. It can be found for about $25-$30. I think Speedtech Hobbies carries it here in the states if you don't want to order from HK. It has slots for 8 sets of LED's instead of 10 like the axial system, but for less than half the price, it's worth it, IMO. |

If you want to go brushless or Brushed the Tekin RS is the way to go. 1. Brushed 2. Brushless 3. Sensor Brushless 4. 3s lipo |

I was up to 3:30 last night wiring up my Honcho, between my light kit, winch and everything else I basically had little room for an ESC. My solution, Tekin FXR It is one of my favorite ESC for several reasons: Uber small Very adjustable (novak rooster crawler doenst have adj drag brake) lipo cut off (I am new to Lipo, don't want to blow myself or the truck up ) |

Get yourself a little smaller lipo and you'll have plenty of room. |

You should try a smaller motor. A brushless outrunner like this one. http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store...idproduct=7873 But you need to make an adaptor for the motor to fit the mounting holes. A 23t pinion and a 76t spur is perfect for this motor. I get 45 mins of driving with a 2s 1800mah lipo, and the motor got lots of pulling power, even at low rpm. A Ezrun 35amp V2 esc are perfect for this motor. There's a speciel crawler setup built in, a couple of clicks and it is ready. Last edited by Dimitri; 01-01-2010 at 12:42 PM. |
