Default New Taco-cho

Almost done putting this one together Axial did a bangup job on this little truck! As soon as I saw that Tacoma body I had to have it Luckily my girlfriend is awesome and got one for me for Xmas Truck itself didn't take that long to complete, I just like to tinker LOL On to pics!

I tried to get the body as low as possible so I sat for hours trying to use the stock parts and still achieve a low slung truck. Needless to say, I only found 1 way to lower the flatbed a little bit which was flipping the rear body posts around and installing them from the bottom instead of the top. This lowered the flatbed to rest directly on top of the frame (more strength possibly). For the front I did the badger mod and cut down the plastic posts the battery tray sits on to get the battery lower and more out of the way; I still have a bunch of adjustment up front for body position.

I had some issues with the flatbed up near the top where it bolts to the cab, every time I tightened the bolts, the lexan on the cab began to cave in. It's hard to see in this picture but clearly the flatbed didn't match the contours of the cab.

Here is my fix, all I did was shave plastic off the flatbed to match the cab. You can see that in this picture.

Some people were saying their 645mg servos don't fit with the crossmember but mine seems to fit just fine I distinctly remember the servo arm hitting the crossmember but going back in to tighten up those 4 screws and the servo moving back. After that, it cleared! Surprisingly... I was about ready to chop that crossmember to pieces haha

With the steering, I was a little concerned that the link going from the servo to the driver side arm was putting too much leverage on the steering arm. What I ended up doing was putting the tie rod below the arm to somewhat get rid of the slop and it seems to have a little less play in it. This can be fixed by going with aluminum steering arms but I'm not at that stage yet :-P Has anyone had an issue with running them both on top of the arm? If not, I'll switch it back and keep the ground clearance.

For electronics I decided to run a Tekin FXR, Integy 45t crawler motor, Traxxas TQ3, 7.2 NiMH, full Deans plugs, 645mg (YES! IT FITS!). I also have a 3 pack of pinions on the way, 13, 14, and 15t.

Here's a few more artsy shots

I can't wait to wheel it!

Edit: One other thing I forgot to mention is the gas tank sticker doesn't quite fit right so a tip to anyone building the truck, paint the fuel tank instead of using the sticker ;)

Great color choice, reminds me of my old 97

Now you just need to go through it with a panel pen and add in the door lines and such

Thanks a lot for the compliments! I think this body turned out to be my best one yet. I used to slap paint down and never had much luck but I took my time with this truck and the results show

I also decided to ditch the TQ3 crap because I've read a bunch of people having glitching problems in combination with an FXR. So before I set the whole thing up only to be disappointed with the performance of the TQ3, I am going to sell it and pick up a DX3E once it comes out! More money but it's just what I am looking for

Thought I'd update this thread since things have changed a bit

Painted the stock beadlocks black, got a new body because the red one was beat to shit Figured I'd match my 1:1 Tacoma with silver.

Rok Lox are kickass tires! I peel out all the time on the rocks and they just keep coming back for more.

I suppose it's all over now, just started throwing some stainless tube into this thing. I'll be building new sliders and a flatbed too so stay tuned

Thanks! Continuing to mod...

Summit 2 speed with jason's mount, pretty slick setup!

Here is my cure for getting rid of the spring for the shifter. Paperclip worked wonders and it shifts beautifully

Also have some 12mm wideners on the way, 2.2 Rok Lox and JConcepts Tense beadlocks On the way soon is some delrin material to make longer links.

2.2 Rok Lox kick ass!! I can't wait to try these tires on the rocks As of now, I have 84oz of lead per wheel but will be adding another 28oz soon I need to chop the hell out of the front fenders and lengthen the wheelbase a bit up front and out back now
