Default JTank70's Honcho (Now with 16 LED's!)

This is my First kit build and I am working on it as I get time. It is taking a while but has been a lot of fun.
I only had a few re-do's so far....You know like when you discover that 3 steps ago you used the wrong screw or part?
Or you put something on backwards or upside down? Just not paying attention kind of things.

Anyways I want to thank everyone on this forum for the wealth of info on it.
From soldering to painting to greasing the gears to shock assembly.....I'm telling you its all "in there".
I just did a search with the key words I was looking for and there it was.
A few times I used my Google toolbar to "search only this site" and that works great too. I asked a few questions too, but got most of my answers through searching the site.

So I thought I would just post a few pics of my new rig and a few notes about the build so far. I still need to finish up with the stickers and install the electronics. I soldered everything up today. I also have the 3Racing light kit for it.

SomeSpecs:

Tekin FX-R 35T Combo
Spektrum Reciever
Hitec 645MG servo
Axial driveshaft rings
Everything else is stock.

I painted the body with Tamiya polycarb rattle cans. The body is Gunmetal. The Bed is Silver. I used Smoke on the windows. Nothing fancy with this being my first build.

Put solder in the wheels and elec. taped in place. Got that tip on here.

Finally had a roller. I was excited to get this far. Especially after mounting the tires.... I used a tip I read on here and threaded every beadloc screw in to cut the threads into the rims before mounting the tired up. That was alot of screwing!

Here is how she sits now.

I'll Post up some more pics as I can. Once she is all done and running I might even do a video.

Thanks for looking, and Again Thanks for all your help and a great site.

Looking good. I like the gunmetal color from Tamiya. I used it on a body of mine as well. order up a Tacoma sticker kit for that body from Bowtie here on the forum.

Thanks,

Those Tacoma Stickers from Bowtie are on the list of things I want to do with this truck. Along with a winch, BEC, and maybe some Rok Lox. I also want to get some of those scale accessories.

Looks familiar:-P

If you look at my Honcho I got the ROK LOX & used the kit foams, so far I am stoked at how they perform.

I ran my Honcho & AX-10 yesterday & there isn't much the Honcho can't do.

Oh & I'm eyeballing the Tacoma stickers too. Would make the Honcho look like an Aussie Hilux

I am broke at the moment so even getting the stickers is out of the Q for now. But I will add some upgrades as I can.

I will be doing up the lights tonight. I bought those when I bought the Truck. I will post up some pics and maybe a quick video tonight or tomorrow once I get things going.

Took me a little longer than I thought to add the lights. I Had a Busy week.

I like the 3Racing LED kit pretty well. It is hooked up the way it was intended at the moment. I think I am going to change it so that the Head lights are always on and the front fog lights are Full on when moving forward and 50% when sitting still. I am also thinking about having the blinkers always on like running lights.

It is close to finished now. I still have to do a little wire management to clean things up. I'll try to get a video of the lights sometime in the days ahead.

Few more pics:

Here are a few of the Rock Lights.

In this one you can see a reverse light as well as a blinker on the body and the rock light in the middle:

Underside rear Rock Lights:

Quick question if I may:

Three of my tires seem to have a wobble to them. Is this normal and will they settle in over time or should I remount them?

Thanks to the other Honcho builders for the Ideas for placing my lights.

I like where you fitted the lights, looks like I might need some more light buckets.

I noticed my tires wobbles but I moved the foams around inside the tires & it seems to have worked

Thanks Guys.

I intend to get her dirty soon. I have to do A little water proofing (there's white stuff everywhere outside) and wire management.

I will also be getting a winch and bec for it soon along with a few scale accessories. I have to pace myself somewhat.

The lights are cool to have but man all those wires are tough to keep cleaned up under there.

Thought I would post an update on my rig with all of the upgrades I have been busy doing.
This forum is either an incredible inspiration or a very bad influence.

Here is what I have been busy doing:

Made Fender wells using blank cd case cover.
I put electical tape on the edges to stop from scratching the paint off the inside of the body.
This also helps to create a kind of seal between the wells and body to keep out a little more stuff.

I painted the wheel nut cover hubs flat black and detailed them up a bit.

Put the RX and light control box inside of a Radio Shack project box to water proof them.
I drilled holes, used grommets and sealed up the wire holes with liquid tape.
I used plumbers putty onr the rim of the cover and sealed it up on the outside with more liquid tape.
I also plasti-dipped the steering servo.

I added a 3-racing winch and respooled it with nylon coated stainless wire. Used a scrimp to clamp the wire.
Replaced the stock 3-racing winch hook with a RC4WD Kong hook. I also plasti-dipped the winch controller.
I got the Warn stickers as well as the Tacoma set from Bowtie. These are great Bowtie, thanks.

I cut and soldered some of the led wires together to get the blinkers to be on all the time like running lights.
Painted the PIAA white on the front lights.
Added plugs to the led's in the body so I can remove the body and not have to leave them attached.

I made some of the tow straps and bungee cords as done by many here.
Got the pro-line accessory kit and painted the handles like wood and weathered them up some.
I added eye hooks on the bed for something to hook the bungees to.

I still want to get a few more scale items like a jerry can and a snatch block. Maybe a 4-link.
I also want to get some of the Rok-lox.

I am taking her out for a good thrashing tomorrow. It is gonna be about 40* out.

Thanks for checking out my thread.

Thanks, and yes I noticed how the tires stiffened up quite a bit. It is really fun to crank around in the snow and climb the bankings though.

I have big plans for the back yard in the spring. I have a nice place away from the house for some scale trails and and a good sized rock banking to clear the brush out of for the AX10 (the other ride). Can't wait.
