Default Motor hitting V-link mounting design flaw?

Anyone else encounter this? The end of the motor hits the locknut that holds the upper v-link on the chassis side. You will either not be able to mount the motor unless you take off the center transmission to install it. And then, when mounting the center transmission, it does not sit flush with the four holes in the bottom 'skid plate'. This occurs with all motors.

What motor are you running? A normal 540 sized motor fits just fine.

I am guessing a brushless since they are a little longer.

It's not a flaw, just part of the hobby. Can't just bolt anything in there.

Yes, I'm putting in an LRP crawler motor in there but the motor length is not the issue. This is on the Trail Ready version and there is obvious wear on that lock-nut and on the stock 27t motor's can where the sticker has worn off and the metal is scuffed.

I have a remedy to the problem, however. I'm adding 3mm spacers under the tranny and that should do the trick. Axial should be made aware of this problem though and other members.

You know, If were to get the Handbros steering kit, it utlizes only one of the upperlinks. The motor side does not get any of this problem.

if you post a pic we might be able to help you more, other wise:

you must have something else goin on there ive seen several tr axials and a few scx kits none of which exhibit this problem you are having i have actually had a 600 out of a drill i had in my scx for a few mins untill i ran out of places to put all the cells for the motor so i took it back out and went back to my 35t motor, that was a waste of time slotting the motor plate for the 600.make shure your tranny is tight and planted if you ran it in gravel and picked up a rock and loosened and retightened maybe it slipped under the tranny.

On my TR the motor is sitting directly on the upper link but that motor is a tab bit longer than the Holmes Hobbies Handwound that I am running on my Honcho.

How about a smaller pinion gear to move the motor over?

Screws tight through the skidplate?

Motor plate flexing? The old slotted ones on the AX-10 kits were really flexy.

It only occurs with closed endbell 540 size e.g. 27 turn stock Axial motor, or longer can length brushless motors.

Wow, just wow. I thought I was experienced ( been in the hobby for a cumulative 8 years) and I didn't think of that. Ugh, I feel like an idiot!

Thanks!
