Default Project Tonka Toy

well, I have this old Tonka dump truck, originaly i was gonna sell it, to to a collector in town, but he said it has no value because it had the plastic chassis, well, if it did, it doesn't any more, so since then it's been setting outside in the weather, so I thought I would finally do something with it, after some examning i discoverd that it should fit on my SCX-10 with some slite modification.

Here is where it's been, I got the idea at this exact moment

I cut the axles off, then removed the axle mounts with the Dremel, after i broke 3 grinding wheels on the last cut, one of which hit me in the arm, i decided to stop cutting for a while and grind them down smooth(ish), i cleaned all the spider webs and wasp nest, (it had been sitting in the snow for three days which is why i didnt worry about them until now), then drilled out wholes to put LEDs in later on for lights.

I've been thinking of just using School Bus Chrome, or just go to TSC and buy some yellow that looks good.

anyway, after more examination i found that the shock towers is the main place where it's hitting, so i removed the shock towers and it seems to fit...almost. well it's kinda obvious what needs to be done now, i think im gonna mount the body solid the the chassis, then cut out the area under the bed to put the battery, move all the other electronics under the cab, the top of the shocks to the chassis of the Tonka truck.

and two things I need some a opinions on:

go with 2.2s or keep the 1.9?

keep the 3 link or get leafs?

went to Walmart today, got some Sunburst Yellow paint, some Flat black to "refresh" the plastic, and some primer and masking tape, may get it painted soon, also got some 3 in 1 oil to smooth up the hinge on the dump bed.

I think the RC4WD R2 Tranny is lower profile.

http://www.rc4wdstore.com/2/product_...roducts_id=280

There are dimensions listed on the page.

Thats what I used in my scx10 when I had body clearance issues with my Chevy SS hard body.

Plus with a few slight dremel modifications you can get the tranny to sit in the stock skid plate only downfall with it imo is not real good in muddy or wet situations

Default More lights to wire up later on....oh well.

You know those 2 extra light buckets that come with the Pro-Line light bar? I found a use for them.

sorry for the bad pics, I've been shooting all my pics with my cell phone. I'm going of the crazy image that some body ever comes up with a 4wd conversion and lift kit for mining dump trucks. so i figured it needed more lights.

ways that build fails:
1. that tonka truck pobably would have had some value if it was cleaned up.

2. its a tonka truck, you can't make a flatbed tow truck out of it!

My favorite part of that is even if you accept the fact that he slaughtered a tonka truck and made it into a car carrier, when a car is on there the ramps hit the wheels
