With stock aluminum knuckles I still had to run a small spacer between the tie-rod and drag link, so moving the knuckles arm up shouldn't be much of an issue.

On Rockcrawlers build he has the Vanquish ones on looks really good. Am running some STRC arms I had laying around for now and have to run spacers cause the inner beadlocks rub on the arms. |

I use the same set up and it works flawlessly. The only thing I had to modify with the set up was to shave the front portion of the axle housing to improve steering radius.

| That was one thing I was worried about. That and bump steer from the drag link and panhard not being at the same angle. But it looks pretty good on Bowtie's rig. Thanks alot guys. |

Really.......bump steering on a little rc crawler? I could see bump steering being an issue at maybe 15 mph or if you feel the feedback in the steering wheel but not in a little rc rig at 2 mph. I'm not bashing on your opinion, I just don't think it would be noticeable. I'm not a fan of 3 links or panhards, especially when double triangulated 4 links are easily doable. |

I never said it had anything to do with speed other than being an issue at higher speeds.

no need to bicker guys. I get that bump steer isn't really an issue on a rc but I used to work as a mechanic at 4 wheel parts and with some custom lifts I found that the if the panhaed and drag link weren't at the same angle or close that it was all over the road and DIDNT flex well. But as I said before looks like it is working for bowtie so I'll give it a try.

The issue of bump steer isn't about feed back to the wheel like in a 1:1 the issue is that all the big hits you would normally feel in the wheel in a 1:1 the servo arm and drive gears/motor are absorbing in your steering servo. This will deffinately cut short the life of any servo even the high end ti gear'd servos. If you go super slow or not your putting way more stress on a steering servo than most were ever designed to handle. Think about it every little bump you hit is like your servo trying to turn you wheels in a bind. In a 1:1 that is what seering dampners are for and in most other forms of RC that is why they have servo savers but here we don't have that luxury. Not trying to start a pi$%^&g match here just saying this. I'm sure within one or two posts somebody is going to say that I've been running this set up for %^&* time and my servo is fine. To that I say congrats and good luck. If your running cheaper servos not a big deal but having a $100.00 plus servo eat it after 5-10 packs sucks least for me... P.S. I learned this lesson the hard way three times before I went to a panhard rod set up. Since then 6mos. and at least 50-60 packs not a problem.. Last edited by WarTrader; 01-13-2010 at 12:34 PM. |
