| My Honcho build
I recently sold my Tamiya based Toyota truck scaler because I was wanting something a little different. I like the quality of Axial kits and really liked the truggy look so I went with the Honcho kit. It really is a nice kit and comes with a great instruction manual. It took me a few hours to put the chassis and drive train together. I opted to mount the steering to the frame instead of the axle like the instructions show. I dont like seeing the steering servo on the axle when it comes to scaler type builds. Mounting the steering servo tot he frame is real easy to do. I may do a write on this soon. There is a kit out there to do it also but why pay for something when you already have 90% of the parts in the Axial kit. Other than the steering, wheels(Mayhem), and tires(RC4WD Rok Lox) it is pretty much stock. I left the suspension geometry alone for now till I have time to add four link suspension. It has been a lot of fun to drive and performs very well. On to the pics. |

Sorry, I have not had time to take pics yet but here is how I did it. You use the servo plate that is normally mounted on the axle. There are 3 holes on it besides the ones you use to mount the servo. The two holes that are across from each other are the perfect distance apart and line up to some holes on the drivers side frame rail. You will have to mod one of the cross braces by cutting it in half and just mounting that cross brace to the passenger side. The hole left open now on the drivers side is where you line up what would be the front hole of the servo plate, the back hole would line up with the front hole of the shock hoop bolt. This may sound confusing and I am sure pictures would clear it up. I will try to take some pics soon to show you how easy it is to do on your own. | |
