Default Traxxas 2075 Servo PITA

SO yeaaahh...this is the second Traxxas 2075 servo I have stripped. This time I was not even crawling or trail running.

I have the servo with the Hand Brothers CMS kit for panhard steering properly setup. Hooked to an XL-5 hooked to a Titan 12T for nothing more than speed/water/mud runs.

25T pinion/ 87T spur 9.6V hump pack = FUN

So after literally 10 minutes running in the yard this servo completely stripped. Called Traxxas and they are sending me some new gears for the servo. They already sent me a free courtesy one just last month (THIS EXACT ONE).

Anyone know of another company making waterproof servos that don't break in 10 minutes?!

I just posted about these. Didn't see your post. Safe to assume you do not like the 2075 for your SCX. I'm surprised that they are stripping so easily. Considering these are used in the Slash and other larger vehicles Traxxas makes, you'd think they would be more durable.

THAT was exactly what I said to Traxxas when I called them! Oh well they're sending me new sets of gears....maybe it was just a fluke...I mean FLUKES haha. I might just say **** it if it strips again....I will just waterproof one myself...probably a Hitec 645 or something

I ran a 645 under water for probably 2 years straight if not longer with no problems...I use 645s on all my scalers and I never water proof them and I have never killed one.

Are you using a servo saver or a metal horn? The Traxxas vehicles all use a servo saver, that is why the gears hold up in them ;)
Like 1BJB says, most servos are waterproof or at least water resistant. A dab of grease on the output behind the horn helps too.

In the last 4 years I have been in this hobby I've never waterproofed a servo and so far havent fried one yet from running in water. Tho I don't go jumping into a pool or anything but do run when wet or threw the snow..

Hobbico CS-170 from tower.
Goobs of torque and it has some gaskets in it.

I've completely submerged mine 100+ times and never had an issue.

1BadJeepBruiser,

So how far and how long underwater do you run your 645 servo? I mean I setup my SCX10 for extreme water/mud running....

To give you an idea...the logger treads just spray mud everywhere and channel them out exactly the way I want them to!

I've gone about a foot over my roof for around a minute or two.

Not the deepest I have gone but you get the idea...

If you plan on doing a lot of deep water dives I'd probably pack it with dielectric grease, just to help counter some of the pressure.

Locked Up,

My LHS guy uses the Hobbico servos as well but he said he uses the cheaper ones do these also have rings already inside the servo as well?

Thanks!

I don't know about the cheap ones.

cs170 has big square gaskets for the case/housing & for the 4 long screws.

I haven't taken one all the way apart to see what it has out by the stub because I haven't had to. Mine has the stub pointing down (hand bros kit). So it would take a lot of pressure to force water through because it creates it's own air pocket ... unless I roll it. Even if I did roll it underwater it would have to be forced through a bearing and tight fit of the housing so I run it as is.

If my servo was on it's side like the stock position I'd pack it with dielectric grease flog it with no concerns.

Locked Up,

I got the Hand Bros kit too with the stub pointing down. I think I'll mount the Hitec 645 and do some water runs this weekend and see what happens with no waterproofing beyond my normal sealing up the RX.

I run an XL-5 so it's all good.

Don't forget to take pictures of it submerged.

I have FULL confidence in 645s...this servo as far as I know is still in perfect working order after driving the truck like this for 2+ years

Well I do have a Hitec 7955TG on my AX10 crawler and even that one says it's water resistant at best.

I don't know how water proof the Hitec 645MG is...I guess there's only one way to find out. I don't want to plasti-dip this servo nor take it apart...probably just put some O-rings around the spline with some grease

I will take everyone's word that the 645MG is water proof hahaha....especially after seeing 1BadJeepBrusier's pic

The_kernel114, I am using the 645MG analog not the 5645MG digital. My SCX10 is built for speed/mud/water no crawling. Would this make a difference in construction internally?

Also I am assuming the O-rings go on the outside of the servo right not inside?

Just run some grease around the output shaft, plus smear on the screw heads. I've done this for quite a while and works well. Cheap easy!!
