| thoughts on a vxl powered scx10
I am building a scale crawler using the Axial SCX10 chassis. Can I use a Traxxas VXL esc/motor combo that I already own to power the vehicle? There is a beginner profile option on the esc that runs the motor and esc at 50% and I thought that might work. Thanks for any input!

I enjoyed running the Velineon in mine! It is great for open places and sandy spots but does not have a great deal of slow crawling control. |

Better yet do the summit transmission swap. Low speed crawl and high speed fun! and costs less money... |

i have the vxl and summit trans in my honcho and i love it. id do the swap after you break the stock tranny. the 2 speed is way to cool. its easiest to use MIP shafts and get the 6mm outputs for the summit swap.

I use that setup in both my truck and my wife's truck and as long as you use less that a 18t pinion it will crawl with no problem but anything bigger will make it studder to much. Plus you can put a bigger pinion and have a blast in the mud and sand, BIG sand hills and DEEP mud holes are really fun with that much wheel speed. The only down side is that you have to change the bearings in the motor every month or two if you do alot of water/mud driving just to be on the safe side.

Thanks! I am getting close to have my first crawler complete. Rear drive shaft, rear axle adapter/rear solid axle dogbone, rear shocks, electronics and I'm done! Oh yeah, I need to get a body, too. I was thinking of the Tamiya Jeep or Land Cruiser, Axial Dingo or Pro-Line Jeep.

You may want to consider using a different, more crawl friendly ESC with that motor, like a Sidewinder. I know that the Velineon motor is pretty good, and when paired with a better ESC you can really get some good control over it at lower speeds. The Traxxas ESC is good, but with a programmable ESC you can really dial it in and get the sweet speed of 3s and the low end control of a Sidewinder. I used to use this combination in my mini-Revo, my 2wd Slash, and mini-Slash. I was able to get some good slow speed control and even do some crawling with them. |

I have an old Traxxas esc that came with my Stampede. Should I pair that with a Novak 55T brushed motor instead? Thanks for all the advise! |

Another option is to get a 17.5 sensored brushless motor and use your velinion ESC. Most people don't relise that the Traxxas ESC will run sensored brushless and all brushed motors as well as non sensored brushless motors. Last edited by Cave Dave; 06-26-2010 at 11:53 AM. | |

I run a 8.5t novak ballistic sensored motor. It crawls good and has nice speed I would say around 12-15 mph, thats with a 14t pinion.

I ran the VXL in mine at first and it worked great with a 13T. It's not as smooth at cralwing but it has major WS.. It's good fun but now I have a Tekin 35T and will never go back..lol

I have a Novak GTB and 18.5 SS motor in mine... 12 tooth pinion... doesn't have the top speed I was hoping for. Any ideas for a gearing change? I have the stock (87?) spur... WaWa |
