Default timh's Sammy "BRUTE" build

So after driving the stock TR for a while I just got tired of the look so I really wanted to do something different. The dingo body is cool but The fender flares get into the rocks really bad in tight spots and that just wasn't working for me. I saw the Trail Ranger body and fell in love with it's potential. I wanted this to look like a Sammy crawler on full width axles. After a while I realized that it looks like an AEV "BRUTE" conversion on a Samurai just like the ones they make for Jeeps, hence the name.

I really wanted to clean up the look and get the body down as low on the chassis as possible. I decided I would start off with some boatsides.

The body wound up so low that I had to ditch the rear body mounts and use a velcro mount on top of the electronics box.

After a few coats of some Pearl White and Black.

There is still a whole lot more to be done. Need to do bumpers, and a spare tire mount, lights, maybe a winch, a homemade hand bros. kit, 4 link and all new links so stay tuned for more!

Thanks, the Trail Ranger is one of those bodies that can look real good or real bad. That's why I worked to get it as low as possible and it paid off in the end.

yeah the low stance makes the truck, very nice job on cutting the hood so cleanly. what are your plans for bumpers?

Thanks...I am not 100% sure yet on bumpers. I am going to start out by capping off the frame rails with sheet metal then the front will at lest get a small stinger. Other than that all I know for right now is that they will be simple and clean.

The spare mount is going to be on the bed at an angle.

Nice build! I like what you've done with it. The Pearl white is a cool color and it looks good with the body low.

An update!!!

Got a front bumper built and got the boat sides painted to match it also. We built a rear bumper but didn't like it so it got scrapped for now.

Nice job on the front bumper. I also like the contrast color of the bumper and the boat-sides. Carry on

Nice!

Bonus points for low cg, clean custom fab of bumpers and boat sides, and approach/departure angles

I can't take too much credit for the bumper. I have never brazed before so a friend of mine did the tube work for me. I did build the boat sides and the cap that the tube work is built off of though. After seeing it done though I think I could pull it off so I may try building the rest of it myself.

Finally got some updates on the rig. Been busy driving it but some things had to change.

Got the spare tire mounted up. I took the spare tire carrier from the Dingo roll cage and modified it.

Then the stock 3-link had to go!!!!

Then finally, new tires, and stock wheels painted black.

I'm still hoping to get a back bumper made up soon and also get some lights wire up so stay tuned!
