Default Honcho 4 Link. Upper Links how long

Hi Guys

My Honcho is still on its way. Maybe another week. This will be my second build and this time I would like to give the Honcho a 4 Link Setup in the back. I really dont know if its any better, because in the SCX10 TR the three links works fine.

But I got this 4 Link Part left from my SCX10 TR and want to use it this time.

I tried to find some information about the upper links. But could not find how long the need to be.

Could anyone of you give me the length of the upper links.

Than I could start my mill an make waiting time a little bit shorter.

Thanks.

the upper links need to be the same length as the lowers for the correct pinion angle.

Not quite correct, if you want to maintain the "stock" pinion angle the upper links need to be a bit shorter than the lowers. Having the links the same length pivots the axle and angles the pinion upward more. I don't have any way of telling you the length of the upper links because I'm nowhere near my RC but I thought I'd help clear that up.

Having the pinion pointed upwards a bit makes for a better driveline angle although on an RC crawler I doubt it really impacts performance.

but stock pinion angle sucks. and having the same size uppers and lowers keeps the pinion at the perfect angle and keeps it from getting hung up as much, IMO makes a pretty fair amount of diffrence in preformance, if its binding and hanging up on rocks therefore effecting where you can go and battery life.

so 106mm is the length of what my uppers are

thats onky 95mm, i thnk thats for the OG scx-10 kit. and that on a honcho must have some terrible pinion angle!

Isn't the rule of thumb the uppers need to be atleast 70% as long as the lowers?

no real rule of tumb for upper link length with rc, a lot of people like to have same length or the uppers slightly shorter, honestly anything from 98mm-106mm will work best with the honcho

If you are using the stock Axial 4 link truss, the uppers generally will be about 6-8mm shorter than the lowers. If you make the uppers the same lenght as the lowers, you will re clock the axles, giving you a lot of negative caster in the front (which can actually give you more steering), and will raise the u-joints above the lower links (good for ground clearance. You will probably want to check your driveshafts to make sure that they can compress far enough as not to limit suspension travel. The best thing to do is get some 8-32 steel all thread, a bag of Traxxas Revo rod ends and experiment and find out what works best for you.
