Whats your plan Matt? water and mud? If so look for a Traxxas XL5 esc, It's water proof and easy to use. If you want to Crawl only and hate the mud and water (like I do) go with a Tekin FX-R.

i think im going to end up running in a mix im not going to put it through a lot of mud and water but it might get wet once or twice while im running it i did plan on water proofing the battery and maybe the servo and motor the best i can. but i dont really have any other plans for it yet but im sure as i run it i will find new things i want to do to it and change.

first off - welcome to the hobby !

as for the esc i have 2 questions for you -

1- how much money are you willing to spend ?

2- the answer to the first question greatly depends on what i would recommend

I run a $100 dollar Tekin FX-R in my SCX-10, it will never see any water or mud with this ESC, as it is not waterproof. the drag brake is about the best on the market and it crawls as well as some 2.2 comp rigs, it has a LiPo cut off built in and can be programed with my home PC.

A $50 dollar XL5, has no drag brake, can be bought used for about half the price, is waterproof, does not have as much control as a highter priced ESC for tecnical crawling. Newer versions have no LiPo cut off. Over all is a great ESC for beating and bashing.

$60-70 sidewinder ($40 with rebate) is what id recomend, has pretty much the same features as the fx-r as mentioned above ^ but is a lil bit bigger.

id also reomend ditching the 55t motor for a 35t as a 55t is pretty slow for a scx-10 IMO i use a 30t Holmes Hobbies hand wound and love it! and has more tourqe than a machine wound 55t, as well as venom motors are junk.

That motor was what came with it when I bought it I bought it as a almost ready to run kit the only thing I didn't get was an esc but once I get one I would like to rum it a little and see how it does for me.

Trimmed the body up and shot it with a quick coat of paint. I'm headig to a local hobby shop tomorrow to watch some races and get the rest of what I need to finish my truck and maybe a few other things.
