Default Dingo, modifyed and rebodied - Landrover 101

I have been in modelling years and years. mostly RC Boats but also a off road fan owning a Landrover's 1:1 and trialing them, so when I accidently came across a RC Crawler Landrover bodied which at first I though was real! - I had to get one.

First I got a SCX Dingo straight away modifications had to be done. (Aug 2010)

BEFORE

AFTER

I was going to get a Landrover Defender hardbody but money got tight so decided to build a Landrover 101 forward control body from scratch.

Becuase it wants to be an EMaxx!

Nice work. The 101 is really really well built. I did a double take when I first saw it. Where did you get the thread plate for the rear tub on the 90?

I have two batteries for a longer run time and adds weight, a little more weight is better in a scaler it works the suspension better.

The tread plate is from the local model shop its plastic though.

Here is a great article on how to do it....It's called running the batteries in parallel....if you run the batteries in series, you actually double voltage instead of run time...(that can be dangerous for your ESC and anything else that cant take the higher voltage!!!)

ok so if i run two 7.2v 6 cell nimh batterys in parallel it would = 7.2v but with more capacity (amp hours) correct ?

how would i charge this , is it now a 12 cell battery ?

what affect does this have on the batterys themselves if any ?

With Nimh Batteries running them in parallel has no effect as far as I'm aware. If you run them in series (Same runtime but double the power) you will need two equally matched batteries in terms of their Mah rating. With LiPO's some people run a 2cell and 3cell in series in order to get 5cell voltage but you need to have the same Mah rating so that one doesn't discharge before the other.

For charging, you would need a series connector to make it a 12cell pack. I don't know about charging in parallel but I'm not sure it would work. Charging LiPO's is a different ball game because the cells need to be balanced as they are charged. If you want to charge 2 packs at a time, first your charger must be capable of 12 cell charging, and they would need to be connected in series. You then tell your charger it's a 12 cell pack.

Hope that makes sense

Thanks for tread plate info Tom!

To start with I just mounted the two batteries and connected them normally and used one at a time but then rewired them like this.

and this way you charge them one at a time, no special parts or chargers needed. If you accidently connect a charged battery and a flat battery there could be quiet a fast flow of power from one to the other hence the fuse protection.
