Exclamation I Need Help Flexing...LOL...Seriously

Hey guys, I'm piecing together my SCX-10 as time allows and I've ran into a snag as the pics below will show. When I make the rig flex it seems VERY limited. I mean I see pics on build threads and also videos showing SCX-10 Honchos flexing out quite nicely, with the pics showing a tire sitting atop a 5" or 6" tall box/rock with the other three tires still making contact.

So here's the specs on my rig:

SCX-10 Steel frame
2.2 Rock Grabbers (10oz each up front, 4oz each out back)
Front - Stock links with stock 90mm shocks
Rear - Custom 4-link delrin links (to get 12.8" WB) with stock 90mm shocks

As you can see in the pics I can barely get a tire on a 4" obstacle. When on this 4" CD case, the other tire on that side of the frame is about to lift. Also, when using the 4" CD case and the 2.5" CD case, you can see how far off the ground a tire is.

So guys, is this normal or what? I do not think it is (especially given how much weight are in the tires), so what can/should I do to get more flex?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as I NEED more flex.

-Mike

PICS:

Thanks for the help guys.

Check for bingind in the links. As you can see your springs are not fully compressing so you still have some travel left. Try mounting the shocks a more of an angle

Reds on top and greens on bottom at all four corners.

No binding that I can tell in the links. But I will try to mount the shocks at more of an angle. I tried to keep them more upright to stay more "scale" than really angled shocks the comp rigs have. I'll try it though.

Anyone else have ideas?

The angle would be my guess. Put the rear shocks into the front most hole in the shock hoop and the front shock into the rear most hole. This works for me.

I notice that you are running the stock plastic links? I noticed with my Honcho that the upper and lower links would hit each other with alot of flex. I just change to the aluminium links and it flexes until the shock bottom out. It also seems that the more I run it the softer the springs get and the more it flexes.

i think your issue is the spring rate. your sprung weight is low! im running a hard body jk with a spare and two battery's on the frame its just now getting to where the green lower springs are needed. i tossed a set of red lowers on it when i had a lexan body that made a decent difference!

springs are cheap and thats where i would start!

One more thing to look into is to make sure your shocks are not overfilled with oil and that they're bled properly. If they don't compress easily when off the vehicle or they rebound by themselves (with the spring off) you may have to re-do them. Softer springs/more inclined mounting angles wouldn't hurt .

Back the adjusting nut all the way up. It will help not collapse the top spring so fast.

I took the axial shocks and springs off and put on losi shocks and springs. Bigger, softer, and a bit more travel. I love them.

can you show pics of your links? it can also give us a better idea of what might be causing it, but like what freetimecrawler said, it's over rated, to me it looks fine for flex, don't need a lot of it.

There are ways to get more flex out of it. One way is to cut all the rubber boots at the bottom of each shock. You can take the rear springs off, and leave the front ones, because there is so much more weight in the front. Another thing i did which helped alot, was take the springs off and stretch them out, but no by alot, because that will make them weaker, and will allow you more flex. Another way is to just buy new shocks

i was kinda thinking the same thing. too much flex isn't scale. though, if ya do NEED more flex (as posted in OP) better pics of your links would help. was this a kit? or a RTR? i know ya said you're "piecing" it together, but thats kind of a vague term....
