Talking Building a Dodge Trex 6x6

I have seen enough 6x6 builds on here to finally get enough ideas in my head of the direction I want to proceed on my build. So I picked up a new Honcho kit today and some extra rear end parts. I already had the ram bodies from Radio Shack but some cutting and gluing is due on them to make a longer bed to go over the dual axles.

So far the tranny and axles and suspension is built and thats it.

Updates will come as it starts to take shape.

Still rolling on the stock frame so the 3rd axle tire is just sitting there.

Looks like she is going to be an extended cab to make the wheelbase work out... or its going to have a scale 20 foot bed... hmmm ya... extended cab it is!!
I kinda like the look with the flat irons... I may salvage the G8's off my brat, buy 2 more and then sell these M2's

My wife says she wants her dining room table back

Oh and the way the body is right now... the spur gear will end up JUST behind the drivers seat.... so a "subwoofer" box in the back seat should be plenty to hide the spur from interior view. (this body has an interior already)

Made it a quad cab, the bed is too long right now and the "axles" are too far apart. But its a ROUGH mockup so that I can start getting info to my frame fabricator.

This is actually a poorly drawn plan that I made for my chassis fabricator, but I will let all of you see it too.

make the rear wheel well all one well once you get the WB issue fixed!

looks like a great start!

I am going to... I just taped the body together with packing tape now to get a worst case scenario... this is as long as I can make the body with the plastic that I have. It should end up around 3 inches shorter hopefully. Hopefully what I chop out of the center can be used to graft the bodies together so they dont fall apart on a big bump.

Fabricator is still working on the chassis. I have started gluing the front part of the body together with plastruct. Middle axle is built, but the axle kit I bought came as a front axle

So... I have the lockouts, but need to go return some extra parts and buy the straight inner shafts and 2 more flat irons for it.

And a case of lead for some wheel weight

Nothing to photograph really at this point until the filler and sanding is closer along on the body.

Moving along slowly.... all 4 rear tires are mounted up, the 2 front ones will be bolted on as soon as the paint on the beadlock rings dries.

Chassis will now be the stock honcho frame with a rear frame extension held on with delrin blocks. I plan to run the 3rd axle off some kind of custom cross member and NOT off the 2nd axle as I want them to function independently.

The body seam on the crew cab is nearly finished, but the seam on the long bed has not been started yet as I want to see my final frame length so that I can make the bed as short as possible to get the most realistic look possible.

I still need to source (and have a source for the parts thankfully) a driveshaft, 2 shock towers, links for the 3rd axle and a bunch of screws/hardware.

I am stuck on the chassis right now... someone make RC4WD sell me a k2-6 6x6 chassis (the nice one in black with the CMS please )

Am going to run a stampede shaft for my interaxle driveshaft because it was in stock, and cheaper than axial.

But I have all the 4 link mounts here, all the stuff to build the homebrew 4 links, the lighting kit, the servo, pretty much everything but the chassis

The t-rex is awesome and I'm slowly gathering parts for a similar build, you beat me to it!

I agree about making the bed be one wheel well similar to the original truck.

As far as the chassis, why not just extend the scx10 chassis by chopping up another c frame rail or a solid piece for mock up. At least thats what was my idea, not sure if its feasible.

I actually have some extra C channel thats very close to axial size that I was planning to bolt on using some delrin. And I may end up going that route if I dont hear from RC4WD within afew days. I also have a local member that says he has some 22in frame rails which would probably be perfect for this too assuming they are the right bend and size.

Finally got it

RC4WD 6x6 chassis, it was on backorder FOREVER

But it finally came back in stock and shipped out first thing. Quality looks really good

I probably wont have time to assemble it for a week or 2.

Hmmm will my rig still be considered axial??? It will have the stock axles and tranny, but the links and chassis will be aftermarket/custom

If you plan on using the stock skid and x-members that came w/ the K2-6 chassis, the AX-10 tranny doesn't fit. I tried when I built my 6x6 and had to end up using a R2 tranny.

Lame, I will have to experiment a bit then I guess...

Though the factory specs say it should work with an R2 or axial tranny.....
