| anyone exo cage a honcho???
been thinking of some stuff i wanna do to my honcho, like a hitch, trailer (in the works) etc, i've been thinking about exo-caging my honcho, and yes i've been searching for 2 days but all i can come up with is exo'd jeeps. will be built with 1/4" soild rod and MIG welded together. just took my mad paint skillz and drew something up, thinking something like this. here's a 3/4 view and here's a side view got any ideas?? if you have an exo'd honcho, no jeeps, than please post them!!! |

This is the first one that comes to mind but IIRC there are a few more: Wroncho Supreme I think it's just less common because of issues accessing the interior and possibly because it'd look kinda weird exo'ing around the flared baja fenders. |

whoa was surprised to see this thread dug up from 6ft under here's what i have started not going too crazy because its 3/16" solid rod. will be tacked together with a MIG then brazed together. im running 2.2's so the fenders are cut out. i left the front a little long so i could figure out what im gonna do. |

i have done a few cages and i would not do 1/4 inch solid ,it is way too heavy even 3/16ths solid is too heavy that is what i have been doing.try 3/16ths tube or 1/4 inch tube on the main bars and 3/16ths tube or 1/8 rod on the support bars to try and keep it light hope this helps .it drops the weight by over half. |

So you gonna weld it in place around the body? How you ever gonna get the body off?

^one way is to make the whole thing hinge from the back and bolt down the front, like a big clamshell - just like how some guys hinged their stock honcho body/bed. There's a pretty good example pictured in the Toyota truck builds thread (general scale section) from the other day, HERE.

the parallel piece (to the body) for the rock sliders is 1/4" solid rod the rest is 3/16th. the exo is 3/16th. its gonna be pretty simple what you see is all is what the sides are getting then there will be a bar going from the main hoop along top of window and down between the windshield and door window and welded to the fender piece. it will be hinged, i've been thinking of finding 2 nuts that fit over the 1/4" rock slider and welding the cage to that then bolt the other side so when you wanna get the body off it will flip open to the side. i havent worked on the cage in a long time lawnmower racing season has started so i'll be pretty busy that and i really need to find a job |
