Default Bad Mesh on bevel gear and diff gear out of the box?

I just started building my scx10 last night and my front axle went together great, smooth no gear noise. Assembled the rear and things arent sounding so great. Output shaft and bevel gear are seated all the way down in Diff housing, has anyone had to shim the diff gear? sounds as though if i put pressure on the locker side of the diff gear pushing it away from the bevel gear things are better..........
Any thoughts are appreciated

Just like a 1:1 only a lot smaller.

It would be smoother and a lot more quiet if you did shim it correctly.

Damn now I gotta check mine

Wierd. I had to add one shim (an HPI 5mm shim) under the pinion of the rear axle in my SCX to bring it close enough the diff centerline to reduce the backlash. Kinda the opposite problem. Make sure both diff carrier bearings are all the way onto the carrier.

I'm not even sure what size shims you'd need to adjust the side to side positioning of the carrier. If you find any super thin ones that are the correct diameter, please post up the size and part #.

I had a similar issue assebling the front axle of my kit. I assembled and unassembled it a couple times and couldn't find why the gears were sounding so gross. Finally put a socket on the bearing and hit it with a hammer, issue solved. The bearing had seemed to be seated all the way but was just a tad off and messed everything up.
