Hey guys I just got my scx10 dingo and love it. now a lot of you put the battery up front it's good for going up hill but do you tip over going down hill and is there a way to stop that. so should I put the battery in front or back? And what's a few mods I should do? Thanks

Well its more of a challenge to go uphill and since you will be doing that more then not, put it in the front.

That's not necessarily the case, I'm descending things much more then climbing, the truck can just do more with the aid of gravity so I wind up going downhill lots and the battery upfront is killing me. I plan to move it behind the transmission and low on my Honcho.

OP the lesson is it's more a matter of personl preference but your main goal should be to get it as low as possible to decrease CoG. Front or back is your call

I have 2 SCX's one I run a little 1700 3 cell mounted on the front servo and the other I have a 5000 2 cell monuted in the rear. The trick is to move everything elese around untill you can get the C.O.G. close to center or slightly forward on the skid plate. To check this I just balence the truck on one finger on the skid and see wich way it falls.
I just got back from taking the kids to Silverwood over there on Friday, you guys have a lot of cool stuff to crawl on in CDA !

Mount the battery across the chassis in front of the motor/trans.

Eliminates flipping over going downhill and improves side hill running.

Thanks for all the replies I think im gonna put the battery in the front and add some weight in the back tires it will feel more like a real truck and thats what I want to make it a good crawler but keep a good scale feel and look.

@Cave dave ya CDA and Post Falls has alot of good stuff to crawl on.

i left my battery up front in my honcho, and i am running a traxxas xl5 esc so it doesnt have a drag brake so that means mine doesnt front flip down hills, and i have more wheel speed, and i can run 7 cell instead of 6

A quick note about down hill driving.

One thing that really helps is over gearing the front so it's moving a little faster than the rear. Many do this and it keeps the rear from wanting to get ahead of itself. I have this done on my main SCX that I use all the time and it helps immensely. Axial makes different differential gear ratios specifically for over driving and under driving your rig.
