Default Mudn_1's (BA-JK) build.....*UPDATE*.... pics from STR event at LRC

I've made some progress on this build and have figured some things out on my own.... being my first scaler build up.....but first I have some questions before I get pics of progress up.....new bright JK body

1. body mounting? I would like to see your ideas so I can make my own... I want at least one end of the body to be rigid mounted and the other, velcro is ok.....like a tilt body....and where front to back should the body be on the frame? basically so I can get moving while waiting on parts and whatnot....

thanks for any help or ideas

I mounted mine today with velcro up front and actually screwing the body to the spare tire carrier with the screw that hold the tire on. Up front I used styrene and the body mounts to make the mount. In the rear I then put another sheet of styrene to keep the body from moving.

My wheel base is 13", 6 1/2 center to axle front and back.

Thanks, can you tell me how far from the frame did you mount the body? like under the front grill, and under the rear? assuming both factory bumpers are removed?

I got the bottom links finished and they are 135mm eye to eye, if yours are the same, what are the upper links eye to eye? to take some guess work out of it....

I don't have the exact measurement but it's pretty low. I can check that in the morning. My axles sit 6 1/2" from the centerline front and back. My lower links are 112mm I think. Upper links are 102mm I think.

is that eye to eye? or minus the rod ends?

and are your tires 1.9 or 2.2? they look big... I have flat irons currently, but want some 1.9 tsl's if they are taller

That is just the link length, no rod ends. Those are 1.9 baja claws. They are BIG.... TSLs are taller then the flat irons as well, but not as tall as these baja claws.

here's how low i got mine to sit.

keep in mind that i had to cut out the interior in the center to allow the tranny to come through.

for the front i used the plate and velcro method like mentioned above. and for the rear i trimmed the shock mounts and used the body clips. two holes right behind the rear seat.

trimmed mounts. i used the rear frame cross brace to mount the body posts.

two holes

I got some more work done tonight..... I really like bowties build (simple, but real looking)... so I am going off of his build.... I moved the rear shock mount, and trimmed it so the body sits low.... trimmed the interior which I really suck at, but oh well, I dont really care about the inside anyways LOL....and I am running Losi CC shocks Limited to 3.5".....

Looks great with the shocks liminted, but i'd spring for the tall 1.9s like boggers, baja claws or i-rocs they'd fill out the fenderwell a little more.

yeah, I dont like the flatirons much, I want tsl's... are they much bigger? and I'm not digging the wheels either, maybe once I get them painted up they will look ok....they might end up black as well

Those are great looking wheels, but I agree they don't work with the jeep.. As for the tsl size, the 1.9 Proline tsl-sx is pretty much the exact same height as the flat irons.

got the body mounts all ready to go.... I went basically off what bowtie has done.... It fits like a damn glove....LOL

I was gonna leave the tranny alone, but I had a crappy Hot racing idler and it stripped at the last comp with my sportsman even though the epoxied outputs are still in good shape.... I went ahead and installed both robinson racing gears..... and assembled the MIPs (no pic)

I also got some sanding and painting started on the body....

last but not least, i hated the wheels after I got them, so I did some experimenting.....we'll see how it goes.... oh and the cage is painted or hillbilly powdercoated...LOL

The build is starting to come together nicely.....
