| holmes 35t torque master
i just bought this motor to put in my scx10 with all stock gears it has 87 spur and 25 pinion with the holmes 35t and a xl5 powered by a turnigy 4000mah lipo 2s. and i am not happy with how slow this is. i had the rc4wd 35t and it was much faster but in the process of switching motors i greased the axles and filled the tranny with dialectric grease and put all metal gears and mip drivelines to. but what i want to know is why i am not getting the wheel speed i see from peoples in videos? please help i can post pictures when or if you need thanks

If you packed the tranny and axles full of grease there's my first clue. Especially with the tranny, your only supposed to coat the gears and bearings with a little left over to keep spinning around in there. Since the tranny is packed with grease the gear's can't move freely. Myself I haven't done this but I know the effects with over lubing lol. I know nothing about your ESC but is it programmed right? Try freeing up your drivetrain and make sure everything spins freely without resistance. |

When I first built my kit, I packed the axles and transmission with grease. I couldn't get it to even roll, everything was so stiff. I took it all apart, removed the grease, and then only coated the internals with grease. Much better. Also, if you want more speed, use a lower turn motor. The stock scx-10 RTR is 27 turn and the Wraith is 20t motors. |

Also a lot of people are running 3s lipo. With 2s it's not going to set your world on fire speed wise.

I do a lot of submerged driving with my SCX, so I regularly "grease" the axles until I see old grease ooze out the knuckle ends, and case halve, pinion bearings, you get the picture. Thinking about doing something similar for the trans. A hole drilled in the case allows me to adjust the setscrews on my Felsenfest spools, seat the pinion all the way into the bearings before tightening the driveshaft setscrews, and fill the darn thing with grease. The Wraiths even have factory grease ports on the bottoms of the housings. I do this mostly for bearing life. And I also apparently have nothing better to do than clean grease off of my rigs, both big and little. I tell myself the couple oz of grease in the housing means I don't have to run wheel or knuckle weights, right? Yes, it does cause a significant amount of drag, but I run low gearing (15/87) with a 35T, 2s lipo, and it's right about my walking pace. And if you run it a couple packs it frees right up. How fast do you want it to go? |

i was interested in this motor also, Im not looking for blazing speed on 2s but id like something quicker than walking pace...is that even possible on 2s without a tall pinion?

I have a 35T Expert with a BR-XL esc and it's GREAT, wheel speed when you need it and gobs of torque all the time, I am however running 4S right now waiting on my 3S to get here. Oh, and I'm geared 87/15

I think part of your problem is too much grease, but the other issue I see is that pinion is WAY TOO BIG!! I'm running 87 spur and 17 pinion on a 4000mah 2s lipo and my rig has more wheelspeed I ever thought it would plus tons of torque!! Is your XL-5 ESC made to handle a 2s lipo? Last time I looked at mine, I wasn't designed to run with a lipo... Not to say it won't do it, but it's not meant for a lipo battery. Just my $0.02 on the topic Good luck! |

Well thanks for all the advice I would like to be as fast as the 27t stock motor and it seems like I can with a 3s lipo. And I will take some grease out its hard to roll. What would be the best way todothis?

I have never greased it before and I thought it was supposed to squish out even tranny. Oops. And is dialectric grease ok for the tranny? And is marine grease ok foe the axles?

I run that motor on 2s with the stock esc. Smooth and plenty of wheel speed. So much I put off going 3s on that rig. Maybe like others have said to much grease? Pull them down and coat the gears. See what happens.

This may be a dumb question, but did u buy the Holmes motor new? Have you tried putting the RC4WD 35T back in the rig and see if its as fast as u remember?

The holmes is new. And my rc4wd motors are bad. So are theaxles ok with grease? Or clean them to? What wrong with the 25t pinion i saw one on youtube with that it was perfect to my likening

So I cleaned the tranny and its better and smooth the bolts we're too tight making it skip a little. And the axles feel smooth but the don't spin freely for more then 2 seconds
