Well I have finally joined the masses and got a new Honcho. These things are really something. I figured the first mod is the easiest and thats change the body. Right off the bat i see why ever one changes the bumper or moves the factory one, definitely sits low. Suspension in front definitely needs attention, frame cross member bottoms on steering arm. Flex out of the box aint to bad, but got better with the shock stops gone and 4 linked the rear with the supplied plastic links for now. I had planned on swapping out the axles for my T-REX's and leafing it, but I had bought some other wheels and tires to use and didnt realize i had actually bought 1.5 by mistake. So I think the Honcho is just going to get homemade aluminum links and the T-REX's will stay with the 1.5 on a future build. I want to thank everyone here for all their tips and tricks and I am really looking forward to putting a lot of them to use. Just a couple pics for now, really wish the weather would break so i can finish my workshop and get to some serious modding. Last edited by offroad1911; 04-02-2012 at 05:57 PM. |

I have to say these things are a blast. But its time to mod it now. Figured 4 link is first, so rounded up the necessary items and going to do it the way I know how. Traxxas rod ends and 8/32 all thread and sleave them with carbon arrows witch is really stong stuff and slippery smooth. Just wish the weather would break so I can work in the shop, sucks not having heat out there. |

Not much to add just changed over to some Rok-Lox and did get some cool Yota rock rings. I bought some scale shocks from a member, but they showed up in two diffrent sizes. No biggy just a matter of getting the right springs. |

Here's kind of a quick shot, its really very simple. What i do is select the carbon arrows and purchase more of the threaded inserts that go into the end of the arrow that the tip threads into. Most of them are 8/32. I then cut my 8/32 rod into 1" pieces and use pliers to thread the rod end onto the cut pieces. I then take that and thread it into the arrow insert using loc-tite. I get as many as Im going to need done then let them set overnight to let the loc-tite set up. When im ready to build the links I cut the arrows using a cut off wheel and Dremel. I always cut the arrows a little long that way I trim them down to the desired lengths. The rod end now fixed to the arrow insert will go in and out of the arrow snuggly. Once I have figured the desired lengths I use a two part epoxy or have used jb weld before to attach the insert into the arrow to let it set up. I wish I had more and better pics of the process but my Dremel is on the fritz. I hope this helps and once I get my dremel problems fixed im going to do a exact play by play on making them and put it into the tools and procedure area. |

They add a little something different. Would like to have them in raw machine color and maybe rub some color in the logos. |

Stared at it for a while and decided to do the little bumper upgrade I had seen someone on here do. Its simple and actually makes a big difference. Cut a small piece of aluminum and drill a few holes and your done. |

Was reading and found the little trick with wire holders to make the lid hinged. Total piece of cake and makes it easier instead of pulling the back pins.. |

Just a few outdoor shots in the yard on the future rock mound. Going to build up on top of the old lattice board with some more rocks and maybe the styrofoam with the bedliner spray trick. |

I dont think changing these things can ever stop. Gave my rings a little different look and actually matched up nice with the paint job. |

Well some of the plastic parts finaaly gave out. Built a new steering and drag link using threaded rod and sleaved with a aluminum arrow cutoff. Played around with some aluminum angle on the factory sliders. |

Hinged body and carbon arrow links are sweet. Great paint job. Couldn't have picked a better theme.

Been doing a few more changes to the old Honcho. Added T-Rex 60 axles for the looks and fabbed my own chassis mounted servo out of 1/2" angle. Cut out most of the bed and mounted a aluminum plate and a TSC tool box. Figuring mounting some kind of light bar to the top of the tool box and storing the wiring inside and maybe put a small switch on the side. |
