| DIY Driveshaft Rings?!
I apologize for this noobish post but I have searched and googled and cannot find this thread. I know you can buy the Axial driveshaft rings but didn't guys used to use a cheap plumbing part to make DIY driveshaft rings? I thought there was a thread on RCC but can't find it. If someone could dig that thread up or show me the DIY driveshaft ring mod I would appreciate it. |

I used some industrial heat shrink that I got from work and it seems to work good once u heat it up it hardened up. Ive also seem a few guys use a piece of copper tubing then just glued it in place

You can use small tie wraps. It's not pretty but it works.

the guy that posted the idea in that thread never posted them actually done. I tried the mod though and it worked pretty good. So far I have made 3 sets. the parts are-1/2" compression sleeves (brass) and small grub screws. You just tap and thread the sleeve for the grub screw and slide em on and tighten the screw. Only thing I noticed was that there is a little slop and if you over tighten the grub it will start to bend the ring off of the yoke. Hope that helps, post up any other questions. Good idea on the compression sleeves, we toss them out at work. We can't use them on our HDPE lines, have to use plastic. Will definately give them a try. |

| Re: DIY Driveshaft Rings?! You are absolutely right Kitty...but the ? wasn't what is the best drive shaft for $50. I bought a used rig that had the Axial rings on it and I have never had a shaft pop off...that was three years ago. Obviously there are better options, but not for $2. Nice...lifetime supply! Thanks guys. I haven't snapped a plastic driveshaft in years but I put in a brushless motor and the extra power is a little tougher on them. I have a pile of plastic ones and wanted to use them up before I upgraded. Anybody know off hand what size tubing fits snug?

Haven't seen it mentioned but a shock adjuster nut works too, although couldn't tell you which one. Been years since I used plastic driveshafts.

Well the junfac driveshaft certainly pops the setscrew out enough for me to want to find a way to keep it in | |

I'll grab a few from work and try them on a set of old-style drive shafts I have at home tonight.

Is this just to keep the end from pulling apart and breaking on plastic shafts?

it keeps the ends from opening up under load and popping off the yoke
