| Steering Links w/Axial HC Knuckles
Did a few searches and didn't come up with anything. Just got my Axial Aluminum HC Knuckles installed and as I predicted, the basic Axial aluminum links will either need to be modified or replaced. What are you guys doing for steering after the HC knuckles are installed? Sorry for the newb question. If there's a thread out there for this already or if it's just basic knowledge, I'm happy to admit defeat. Thanks! Fink |

Here are a few shots - it's hard to see, but the rod is just a few millimeters away from the pumpkin even with the wheels straight given how much shorter the arms are on the HC knuckles. Closeup of the pumpkin (wheels straight) Steering overall (wheels straight) Steering at full lock to driver's side Steering at full lock to passenger's side Only getting about 60% steering with the link hitting the pumpkin. I bent it a tad and that helped a little. Going to try and bend it some more and add a spacer or two to the rod ends to see if I can get it close. I have a spare link that I can use tomorrow with the stock knuckles if I need to. Any input is appreciated and again, sorry for the newb question. Thanks! Fink |

Ok that's what I was thinking it would look like. Run the tierod on top of the knuckles and your draglink to the servo on the bottom of the knuckles. Flip the tierod around 180* from front to back and it should put it behind the servo horn. |

Make your own with a bend for pumpkin clearance.

That is likely what I'll do going forward, but I was hoping to find a way to make this work for today and tomorrow as I won't have time to go out and get the stuff I need to make one. Thanks to both of you for the replies! Fink

I run mine on top of the knuckles (same knuckles), gets the entire fifty degrees of steering. I also added a 6mm spacer to get the toe going out a little and help the Ackerman at full lock. I do have the Hand Bros. kit so my draglink is a different setup.

Maybe longer rod ends so you can bend that link a little more?

Well after some tweaking and relocating like Addicted suggested (thanks dude!) and adding a few spacers to the link for the correct spacing, I think I'm just about there. Still don't feel like I'm getting full throw, but aside from a little binding/rubbing at full lock, it's not bad. Here's a quick video showing how it sits now. You can see at full lock the servo and servo mount twists a little under pressure. Hitting the trails tomorrow so we'll see how she holds up. Try using an angled rod end on your drag link at the servo horn. It should bring it down just enough to get it away from the tie rod. Also you can run the screw through the horn for the drag link in from behind to get some more clearance. Check your EPA's as well.

Isn't that going to hit the frame when the suspension is compressed? That's the problem I ran into. :/

I'll be ordering some more rod ends today and hopefully have them by Tuesday or so. I attempted running the screw through the servo horn from the back but had some issues getting a wrench in there. Ended up doing it this way to see how it would work. If I get time this morning before I head out for the meet I may give it another go. Thanks again for the help. Quote:
I'll post back after the meet and let everybody know how it goes. Thanks to all for the help. Fink

LOL. The servo horn comes off. Take it off, connect it to the drag link, then put the horn back on.

I guess my lack of sleep plus minor frustration blinded me from seeing the logical route. It actually did really well today. Stripped out a servo horn but other than that, did pretty well. Buddy of mine made me a link and brought it to the meet this morning so I'll toss that on tonight or this week sometime and see how well it does. Thanks Joe! Fink
