Axial aluminum shocks Leaking??? Pics

So I purchased a set of Axial Aluminum threaded shocks. They were too long so decided to shorten the eye to eye down to 4" using fuel line. I removed the body, nut and black piece under the top nut. I then slid the roughly 1/4" piece of fuel tube and reinstalled the shocks...Voila...shortened. My problem is that I filled them today with 20wt silicone oil, bled them, and reassembled. I now have some slight leaking of oil around the bottom of the shock body around the black threaded piece that meets the body. Not sure why this is happening and wondering if anyone has any feedback for me or a fix. Should I use thread pipe tape on the threads??

its prob coming from the orings that seal the shock shaft inside the black bottom peace. you nicked them in the disassemble reassembly process. gotta be carful

The black bottom piece has a thin 6 sides area to unscrew it from the shaft. The inside is just threads so not sure how I could've messed it up. I'll take a closer look

Inside the black bottem piece is a rubber ring ( o-ring).
Mabey its dammaged.
