top shaft play

Did the mirror swap,now now I have about 3mm side to side play on the top shaft.Put it back acorrding to the manual did not notice the play before????

a little play is normal, nothing to worry about.

I've found that the newer Axial trans have excessive side to side play in the upper shaft. I'm talking over 1/8". Unacceptable to me.

I solved this by using 5x8x.5mm steel washers.

My particular trans required 1 next to the upper gear, and then 4 more placed on the upper shaft underneath the slipper plate and drive pin. Yours may have different tolerances and require more or less. Ideally you want the slightlest amount of side to side play, just enough to know that your not side loading the bearings.

I'm not entirely sure if this slop is a result of the slot in the upper steel gear being cut to deep, or something similar with the slipper plate.

If you want the maximum lifespan out of your pinion and spurs, you'll want to shim the upper shaft.

Alright,thanks thought I was losing it,it was rtr first strip.You are right more like 1/8 inch ,never seen that in hobby quailty rc,guess I will grab a sheet of plywood and make a shim LOL.thanks
