Default Bought my first SCX10

Bought RTR Rubicon for my 10 yr old son, pretty impressed so far (my own rig is a linked up Trailfinder 2).
Gave the Jeep a 35T with 2S, installed Axial bead locks on the treps with metal steering links.
Next up is linking the lower suspension. The lower links are way too flexy when crawling.
Out of the box are these things pretty tough?
What spare parts should I plan on needing when stuff breaks??

I'd definitely plan on replacing the chubs, steering knuckles, drive shafts, and servo horn with metal upgrades and you shouldn't have to worry in replacing them again.

For the chubs and steering knuckles the Axial aluminum replacements provide similar functionality but with greater durability than the stock plastic ones. The Vanquish chubs and knuckles provide greater performance and are higher in price but are totally worth it in my opinion.

I prefer the MIP and Junfac drive shafts.

just replace things as they break. if you need to upgrade get rid of the plastic loweres , beef up the drive train. and then beef up the steering system. also go MIP , junfac wont give you a good angle unless you clock the crap out of the axles.
