Default gearing for 55t axial motor

I'm running the stock 87t but I put a 22t pinion. A bit faster than walking speed...so quick enough. Is this fine?

i ran mine with a 20t and it was fine. i was told not to go over that as i wanted to use a 23t and all the guys i aksed said it would be overgeared and may end up killing the motor or esc maybe even both

Motor gearing is all about the heat.
If it stays cool for as long as you plan on running it you are good. If it gets hotter than you like (cant hold finger on it) than you are overgearing the motor & heat is the fastest way to smoke a motor.

if you need more speed. drop the 55t and go with a 35t. on stock gearing it will still crawl the same but will have a little more speed for when you need it

Well I'm not too concerned about the speed..what's the point of having it running g speed...unless you intend on running next to it, Haha. So with that pinion it runs fine...I don't have an opportunity to run it long enough at the moment. I will when I'm camping though. So I'm just curious what others are using with the 55t motor.

So 22t pinion is too big?? I was eying up the traxxas 21t 550 can motor at best buy...but I really don't want to buy another motor even though its only $25. My only other option because great hobbies has no stock is the $50 teken 35t motor, but that price is getting up there. Is there a 35t i can get online for decent?
