Default 79 Ford Prostock Pulling Truck SCX10

My r/c club is about ready to start a truck pulling program and the most popular class is going to be 8 lbs prostock 1.9 pulling truck. The rules are fairly simple:

- Can run either Tamiya TLT-1 Tires/wheels or any scale appearing 1.9 (with dual rears permitted if using standard 1.9's).
- 17.5 motor limit (must run on 2s Lipo)
- 8 lbs max weight w/ weight box allowed
- hitch required with 2.5'' max height

Here is what I have so far on the build. I have the TLT-1 tires mounted up (they use 12mm hexes and fit on the scx10 with no modifications needed), the Level3 scx10 hitch installed, my homebuilt weightbox, and a 79 Ford body I'm finishing.

I have a Hobbywing ESC on the way as well as a Trinity D3 17.5! I also need to add a the actual hitch the hitch assembly. I plan on using a threaded wall hook.

I'll keep this post updated as I build it. Doesn't take much to make the SCX10 a great puller!

Looks cool, are you aloud to shave your tires like the real guys do? I did the rear stock tires on my TXT-1 and it worked great.

Not in prostock, but in the modified class yes, you are free to cut tires. I'm going to be purchasing a third scx10 (in addition my dually in another thread and this truck) to build a super modified puller with.

Just remembering my TXT/Clod days. The tires weren't that grippy. Have they changed the compound?
Looks awesome, good luck.

It's an HPI 79 Ford. Most hobby shops carry it.

Getting close now! Just have to put the name on the side, drop the motor in, and put the scale motor stacks up front.

The Missouri Mule is finished! The 17.5 motor provides plenty of juice and the first test hook was a big success. I'll be using it tomorrow during the truck pull at the G6 in St. Louis.

Is the locking out of the rear susp allowed? If not tighen the shit out of the driver side springs. You want the truck to remain flat. If you leave em soft itll go down track leaning hard!

I have a 10lb 2wd that's a beast.. but noone in my area pulls so its kind of a bummer it just sits on my shelf..

Truck looks really clean btw! Good job

By all means please post a pic of that 2wd! Yeah, I'm going to be locking the rear suspension before our first pull.

Here's a shot of the truck posing with my sled.

As for the weight, I have a cut & rounded block of steel that weighs just over 2lbs and fits great in the box. With battery and weights, the truck weighs right at 7.98 lbs

Had my first pull with the Mule. Truck is setup great, I just need to get a different motor.

As an aside, I wound up purchasing the 2wd from kaneohecrawler and it turned it into the Missouri Mule 2. The truck is a beast with the installed Castle 6900 system. Here are some shots of it from last weekend's pull.

EDIT - as a bonus, here's a shot I got of my buddies badass F350 puller

those are some really nice rigs its a bummer that some motorsports 1:1 or 1/10 seem to be more popular in certain parts of the u.s. which sucks because I really dig the pulling stuff. I always remember watching it on t.n.n. (the Nashville network) how many remember that station? they always had monster trucks, tractor and truck pulls and mud drags too and I love them to this day. events out here in California are not as plentiful but I would really like to build a puller and sled for sure and see how many locals would build some rigs too.

It helps that St. Louis has always been a hotbed for truck & tractor pulling (as well as monster trucks) but even then it was tough to get it going. Luckily another club REALLY got it going and I've been able to sort of piggy back off of them. I tried getting r/c pulling going here about 12 years ago but it died out. It wasn't until scale r/c 4x4's became super popular a few years ago that it started to grow. You never know, if you build or buy a sled and start pulling SCX10's it could progress into full blown purpose built trucks!

The purpose built trucks are extremely expensive for something that can only really do one thing well, and for about 10 seconds at that....but its a REALLY fun 10 seconds
