| New Axial SCX-10 Kit - What to Get?
I have decided that this year toward the middle of December I am going to get a new kit. I had made the decision to get a Dingo a while back because I was going to get my hands on the kit itself to see if there were any products I could develop for it to make it "better". But now that the new Recon G6 Edition Jeep Wrangler has come out I am on the fence with what to get. Is there anyone who is considering getting any new kits this year or soon, specifically either a Dingo or a G6 Wrangler? |

I just picked up the '12 rubicon kit. But I'm still waiting on a bunch of parts before I start the build.

Well, I wanted an scx10 and that was the latest new kit...until the rubicon G6 just showed up. I don't even want the body...gonna throw a PL '73 Bronco body on it.

Might want to compare that to the available PL bronco's WB You may need change your link rod lengths to fit !? I think that there are two different PL bronco bodies produced... But I know the PL '73 bronco body (with the molded in hardtop) is designed for the 12.3" wheel base. just sayin'

I don't have the G6 kit...I have the '12 rubicon kit. I'm not sure what the WB is on the G6.

If I were to buy, I'd buy the g6, but I'm not on the market. The dingo is not "new" and in fashion if you know what I mean. |

I plan on buying a Dingo for me and my girlfriend's son to build together. I like it because it comes with a spare tire, fender flares, and body width bumpers. We will probably put an XJ body on it like my last one so everything can be transferred over easily. Plus cost factor. It can be had for $60 less than the G6 Rubicon...

It would be my guess the newer G6 is the same as the JK... and likely the shorter 11.4" WB. I don't know if PL offers a 11.4" WB Bronco body. !? But the Tamiya '73 Bronco body for the CR-01 is close to that, I think. You should have bought the Unlimited 4 door Heap... or a Honcho if you were intent on running the PL '73 bronco body. But since you didn't... It's probable that you will need to replace your suspension's link rods to extend your WB to fit the PL '73 Bronco body. It's possible longer plastic link rods are included in the plastic spares bag. If not... You'll hafta' throw more money into that black hole

You get the icon aluminum shocks with the G6 as well as the HD diff lockers..well over 100 dollars to buy separate..its a good deal in my book but I don't like the missing rear fender flares or the front spider bumper...If its the same wheel base I may try the new body with rear flares...never did like 4 door vehicles. I like getting the rtr versions because if you have better electronics you can sell what you wont use electronics wise and it pays for the upgrades you want. You can get $90.00 for the stock esc/motor/radio and receiver easily on ebay. you can get $30 for the rtr wheel/tires and $40 to $50 for the painted body with the stickers. Stock shocks $20.00 Or roughly $180.00 back on your rtr parts you don't want to use ..so 360 minus 180 equals $180.00 for your new scx10 honcho or rubicon..just add your parts to it to finish it. you end up paying much less with the rtr kit and selling what you don't wamt to use...But no rtr version of the g6 just yet so meaningless for now. My guess is an rtr version wont have the HD lockers or the aluminum shocks...so basicly the base rubicon rtr with a different look. Last edited by 6sharky9; 11-03-2013 at 08:04 PM. |

Quote: thought there was only the 4dr unlimited that spec'd out to the longer WB But since your Rubi comes with the Unlimited 4 dr jeep body... has to be the 12.3" WB didn't know there were other kits using the unlimited body. sorry 'bout that did find out the G6 kit has a 12" WB Which is about in the middle of Axial's 11.4" WB/12.3" WB offerings. So the dingo is pretty dead in water it seems. I have not really been one to go with the crowd but if I am going to be making products that is the way to go. My only concern is that there are a lot of people out there who have Dingo's and I think the fact that there are not a lot of accessories or hop-up ups that are specifically for it that it kinda gets put on the back burner. That is something to be contemplated. I like all the facts on the kits though especially how you can actually make money off your RTR if you have a preference to rid it of "stock" electronics. That is a really good point. I am not so sure they will release a RTR edition of the G6. I read somewhere that they are releasing the G6 kit to cater to the people who want a base model that has good parts that could help them get into comps without spending money on the basics that a good kit should already include that commonly get either changed out or replaced because of damage. However, the point still stands: Axial has made a commitment to use Jeep for branding. They are making a statement there that is going to mean a lot of Jeep related items are going to come down the pipe in the future probably for a long time to come. I can't really see Axial approaching Toyota (not that this discounts their capability as a 4x4 vehicle manufacturer) for rights to reproduce a likeness of say a Tacoma. Jeep's thing has always been about their offroad capability. BUT look at the deadbolt. Is that there attempt to bring attention to their more neglected models? |
