I run duratrax big bores with the softest spring and they work great.

Traxxas Bigbore, Slash front shocks. Decent prices, smooth handling and they are _very_ durable. You could even go with the cheap plastic version Ultra and it would be a HUGE upgrade from the shit Axial provides.
My basher has run a lot of hours with the Bigbores and they have taken far more abuse than any scaler or crawler ever will endure. Long and hard jumps, 30 ft drops, crash, smash and rolls. No leaking or any other issues.

In my experience the stock 90mm shocks work pretty well if they don't leak and are tuned properly for your truck..not that aftermarket cant be better but stock ones work pretty well.

I have 90mm hot racing scale shocks and they work tits! Couldn't be any happier...cheap, look great, and internally sprung so no oil to leak out. $39 for a set of four on eBay.
