Default Traxxas 2spd From Emaxx

I was wondering if anyone has installed the Emaxx 2 spd in a SCX. Wonderered how the fit was and what it was like with the gearing. About to venture into a scale build but I always wanted a 2 spd installed. Any help would be appreciated

The go fast 2spd trannies are centrifugal, which may or may not work for you depending on setting and driving scenario. The summit transmission may be a better choice for it's manual shifting capability.

In either case, they are huge and cumbersome for 1/10 scale IMO. But they are very durable transmissions.

I haven't used a 2 speed trans yet, but you might want to check out RC4WD they do several different ones, or you could use one from a twin hammers.

I have one installed in my Rubicon. You will need to make a bottom mounting plate, the tranny will sit a little higher than stock. You will need to fab a servo mount, pay attention to pinion angles, and depending on the body you select, you may have to "alter" the floor. I attached a few photos for you to study. It is worth the effort though as having two gear ranges makes for alot of fun, crawls very effortlessly in low 1st gear. Hope this helps.

I had a emaxx tranny in a super class I built years ago. They are manual shift, at least the older ones, and it worked great. BUT, it mounts both motors up high kills your center of gravity. I have a RC4WD AX2 now in my terra wraith and I like it every bit as well. 1st gear is lower so it's nice for crawling. 2nd gear gets up and goes. Gear it for 2nd.

Does someone have the output ratios (1st/2nd) for the rc4wd ax2 and the summit tranny? I thought I read that the summit tranny has a wider difference, which seems like it would be better to give low speed power and higher end speed.

AX2 has a high is 1.78:1 and low is 5.05:1. The Summit high = 1.83:1 low = 5.08:1 Not much of a difference. These are just the tranny ratios, not including diffs or spur/pinion combos.

thanks for the info. I had a summit tranny I picked up I was thinking of dropping in one of me scalers but mounting it is no easy chore. maybe i'll sell it and look for an ax2 since it would pretty much drop right in.
