| Cross over steering
Did a search, didn't find anything similar. When making my steering links, I had the idea of rigging a custom cross-over (EDIT: "Inverted T") setup: The advantage to cross-over verses the typical on-the-knuckle would be reducing the stress on the steering knuckle itself, making it less prone to breakage. I ultimately decided to use the OTK steering anyway, because its so darn simple, but I wanted to share the cross-over photo, as it might spark some ideas for others. On the topic of alternate steering set-ups, has one ever tried to built a inverted-Y, like on the older Wranglers? Might be a fun challenge, plus an extra touch of scale-ness. The stock steering setup IS crossover. You have built an inverted-t setup. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...ngresearch.htm Last edited by Calderwood; 06-16-2014 at 01:09 PM. |

Actually, THIS IS essentially the stock set-up, but with DIY components (which I hadn't seen done before). It's the various upgrade kits that tend to change it to OTK. And by golly, I think you're right about the terminology. The image in my head when building it was a kit sold by Rugged Ridge, labeled as a "cross over conversion." It features a drag-link, connected to an end-to-end tie rod. Guess that's just their marketing team. First time I've heard it referred to as an inverted T, though. In any case, this is what I built. Oh... Nice. Did you drill and tap through the link? I'd love any info you have on the construction of it. Why did you replace it, any problems with it? |

I like yours a bit better eric. keeps the steering rod at full length for a longer arc, and less bump steer at full droop.

Yes, very slight toe-out as it compresses. But I doubt it'd be noticeable on a low speed RC. Eric, were your links solid, or all-tread and brake line? Any trick to drilling them? |

My links were solid aluminum drilled and tapped for 3mm set screws. just used a jeepin Doug drill bushings, drill press, 3mm tap&drill set. | |
